For this new 20-inch necklace, I used 3 different shades of transparent blue glass, covering each in a thin layer of powdered blue enamel while the glass was white-hot. The focal pendant features a thin sheet of 24-carat gold leaf. Now that the "Mira! Las Cruces" festival is over (I had an excellent couple of days!), it's time to share some new work. A bit of improvisation. My larger earrings get in the way on my displays for the Saturday Market. So I salvaged the light bulb cover from a shed at the back of the house (the fixture no longer has power), and took a grinder to it. With the old paint and rust removed, it's all shiny, and makes a fun little display for larger earrings. Baking soda can be used to create a texture to glass beads or other glass objects. Far left, the only effect is blending of two colors around the equator of the bead, which retains it's shine. Further right, the blending is more thorough, with a "metallic" surface appearance. It may never be pretty, but it's functional. I'm up and running in my new studio, the old metal-roofed cinder block building on the property. I've run power 150 feet to the structure, cleared it of debris, etc. and am set up with a hot head.
