Sometimes, when working on a larger piece, I pause for a bit and just make something else, like a random bead, pendant, or sculpture. This is a large, thick pendant bead with a core of fire engine red opaque glass, and marbling in other opaque colors, including teal, orange, grey, beige and yellow. I used canes of green, rose and blue glass with encased strands of opaque white to make the beads for this 18-inch necklace. The white strands give the beads a sense of movement. I've just finished this, which is directly based upon ancient Hellenistic and early Roman "evil eye" beads. I've used Murano glass, of course, to make the components. The focal beads is transparent dark violet, the other beads transparent cobalt blue, and the "eyes" opaque yellow, teal and dark red.
