I made these beads at the torch using transparent red and topaz glass, arranging the red beads to one side, and topaz to the other. The focal bead is red glass encased in clear, with fused gold mica on the surface. Handmade glass art from my studio.

Something simple for Sunday. I used transparent emerald green glass to make these beads, then added a thick thread of opaque pale green for contrast. The punched out brass discs beneath I heated, then allowed to develop a natural patina over several months outdoors. The ear wires are pure copper. I used 2 types of colored mica fused to shades of transparent glass while in the torch flame to make the beads for this necklace, inspired by the iridescence one finds on ancient and other historic glass. I used canes of green, rose and blue glass with encased strands of opaque white to make the beads for this 18-inch necklace. The white strands give the beads a sense of movement. The colors suggest the holidays, but this could be worn anytime. A while back I posted a video showing the effects of baking soda on lampwork soda-lime glass. Well, here's a finished piece in that technique. Note the wide range of surface textures and color blends. I've used a transparent smoke colored glass to make these beads, along with champagne and white overlaid with dark purple that appears black in all but bright natural light, and some opaque earth tones. Baking soda can be used to create a texture to glass beads or other glass objects. Far left, the only effect is blending of two colors around the equator of the bead, which retains it's shine. Further right, the blending is more thorough, with a "metallic" surface appearance. This was a fun piece to make, using off-white / cream colored opaque and bright white opaque glass to make the beads. These were rolled in a range of different frit mixtures, resulting in really satisfying color combinations that pop upon close inspection. The resulting contrasts and swirls are very pleasing, looking very oceanic. Because of the layering and depth, they look quite different in various types of light.
