Another example of a very ancient Mediterranean glass working technique meeting Southwestern style. Bracelet with a little crescent moon charm. Known in the ancient Roman world as a Lunula, the crescent moon was worn by girls and young women as a talisman. In my Etsy & Kofi shops (links in profile): What seemed at first a quirky combo of transparent purple and peach turned out well. I rolled the beads while white hot in powdered mica for extra sparkle. For this new 20-inch necklace, I used 3 different shades of transparent blue glass, covering each in a thin layer of powdered blue enamel while the glass was white-hot. The focal pendant features a thin sheet of 24-carat gold leaf. Fun with enamel and glass. I used clear glass for this necklace, rolling it in 3 colors of enamel while white-hot. For the pendant, I used purple and teal on one side, green on the other, against a white enamel background, leaving it in the torch just long enough to create a textured "orange peel" effect. Miniature jugs, less than 1 inch that can be strung on cord to wear, with a bit of cotton inside and a drop of favorite essential oil or perfume. Based on examples from the 3rd-5th Centuries CE found across the Mediterranean, their purpose remains unclear: to hold water or soil from a sacred spring or pilgrimage site? Fun to make.
