For this new 20-inch necklace, I used 3 different shades of transparent blue glass, covering each in a thin layer of powdered blue enamel while the glass was white-hot. Fun with enamel and glass. I used clear glass for this necklace, rolling it in 3 colors of enamel while white-hot. For the pendant, I used purple and teal on one side, green on the other, against a white enamel background, leaving it in the torch just long enough to create a textured "orange peel" effect. This 20 inch necklace is finally finished. Inspired by Hellenistic era apotropaic eye beads, but with a selection of more transparent colors than one would find on ancient examples. I mentioned in a post last week that I had some big news to share. Here it is: I'm moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico, and will permanently reside there. Las Cruces has a thriving arts scene and art markets, and will allow me to earn good income from my work while in retirement. There may be a pause for a while as I get settled. It may never be pretty, but it's functional. I'm up and running in my new studio, the old metal-roofed cinder block building on the property. I've run power 150 feet to the structure, cleared it of debris, etc. and am set up with a hot head. I can never get enough blue; all kinds of blue. This was a fun piece to make, using off-white / cream colored opaque and bright white opaque glass to make the beads. I tend to focus on symmetry, both in form and color, but for this piece I worked abstract and asymmetrical. I made the beads in a range of shapes, avoiding balance in the design. including mushroom, elongated pyramid, lentil, spherical, cone, irregular, one hollow blown bead, and "normal" beads in tubular and barrel shapes.
