📷 Today I begin a series of photos to celebrate winter #solstice and to lighten up the long nights in the Northern Hemisphere. These will focus on lighted glass sculptures, Chinese lanterns and light-themed photos from my travels.

The Outer Banks, while being large islands, are basically sand. They are similar to a desert in habitat in most locations. It is not surprising, then, to see cacti growing there.
It is better to view them from a distance.

🧵 #RodantheNC 2You see, Rodanthe is located on the point in the #OuterBanksNC that sticks most out into the Atlantic Ocean. It takes the brunt of the ocean action.
The 'Inn at Rodanthe' was in the movie because it was right on the ocean, which added to the drama as a hurricane was approaching as part of the plot.
Later, the beach washed away, forcing the Inn to be moved inland. Still does not look that safe to me long term.
I sojourned southwards for more movie sites.

During my trip to the #OuterBanksNC in July, I went to see places where the movie #NightsInRodanthe was filmed. There were some interesting things to see, but another fraught story was revealed during the trip.
First building I looked for was the 'Inn at Rodanthe' where much of the movie took place. It has been repainted, but is still there, now called Serendipity.
But it is not in the same location it was in the movie!

It's not common to see a Box Turtle chowing down on a feast, so I had to document this occurrence. This one seems to pick through the variety to get to its favorite eats.
