  1. Random travel archive photo. This was late 2019 and a visit to Petra, Jordan, and the most breathtaking place we've visited. The site is far more than just the Treasury that most people are familiar with. Our trip included an 800-step climb up to the Monastery, pictured here.

  6. Picture-perfect

A beautifully sunny February day and we're driving towards Seyðisfjörður in the east of Iceland. Away from the road, the scenery is pristine.

The blown snow partially hiding the peaks, the exposed black vertebrae defining the mountain ridges, the frozen lakes, the tall snow-poles following the road's edge. Dazzling white snow, blue shadows, and clear, bright sunshine.

  7. BOOM Charlotte, the 3-day arts festival with a fair amount of fringe is far larger this year than last. If you are available, it is worth checking out.

There are free shows and ticketed events.

Friday's evening schedule is jam-packed, including music, dance showcase, spoken word/poetry, a play, multidisciplinary one-woman show, multidisciplinary magic show, fringe dance and theater.

  8. Random photo from the travel archive for #TravelThursday and this is the view from about halfway up Osorno, a volcano in Chile. We'd taken a fabulous chairlift ride to this altitude and for the views to the snowy top of the mountain above us and the gorgeous landscapes ahead. The distant peak is that of Calbuco, another volcano that had erupted the year before we were here in 2016.

  9. Something from the archive for #TravelThursday and if you guessed Amsterdam just from looking at this canal shot then you'd be right. This was our second ever visit to the Dutch capital, from 2019, and took place on Liberation Day so we were able to follow up our visits to a few museums with a free music festival in the city late in the evening. Lovely city even if it's become a bit more hostile to tourism and travellers in recent years.

  10. I don't know how it is now, but back in 2013, there was a street on Heimaey island in Iceland with colourful fishes painted on it that would lead you to the harbour.

  12. No Spring flowers to be seen where I live right now so I'm just dreaming of them while browsing the flower photos I took in Iceland last May. There was an amazing field of wildflowers in front of the cottage we were staying at in Hvalfjörður. I took this photo through the living room window.

  13. Here's something for both #ThrowBackThursday and
#TravelThursday: A photo from Delhi in 1988. The Indian folks I worked with teased me about how many "cow in the road" photos I had.

  14. For #TravelThursday here's the City Hall in Plaza de María Pita, A Coruña, Spain from a visit last year. Built in the first decade of the 20th century there are nods to early Baroque and late Art Nouveau in the overall design. The four female sculptures on the façade represent the four provinces of Galicia.

  15. For #TravelThursday here's the Broch of Clickimin near Lerwick on Shetland which we looked around in 2024. It can be dated to at least the early Iron Age although its actual function, like all brochs, is not clear. Farmsteads, status symbols, and fortifications all have supporters but also those who disagree. Archaeologists, eh? What are they like?

  20. Garðar BA 64 shipwreck on route 612. If you're driving to Latrabjarg bird cliffs or Raudisandur beach, you won't miss it. This photo was taken in June 2019. Between then and now, looks like someone had spray-painted some ugly tags on the side of the ship pictured. 🙃

  21. Something from the archive for #TravelThursday but making use of the automated reflection removal tool today in Camera Raw to take out windows reflected in the glass of the bus we were on at the time. This was heading down the pier at Puerto Madryn, Argentina in 2016, just about to head off for the day down the coast of Patagonia to a penguin rookery.

  22. A combination #ThrowBackThursday and #TravelThursday post looking back to 2008 and a visit to the Summer Palace in Beijing during our pre-cruise honeymoon stay in China. This is the 18th century Jade Belt Bridge on Kunming Lake, designed to resemble southern Chinese countryside bridges but with an exaggerated height to allow the Qianlong Emperor's boat to pass under.

  23. CW: Food

    Things to Do in #Savannah

✅ Eat at Leopold's Ice Cream (Since 1919)

There is commonly a block-long line of salivating people waiting to get in.

Pro Tip: Go early on a Monday and walk right in.

I had "Savannah Socialite" which describes me so well.
"Milk and dark chocolate ice creams with roasted Georgia Pecans and swirled with homemade bourbon infused caramel." 😋 How can you resist?
