In mice, a mutation in PC-1 has been linked to a condition called tiptoe walking, which is characterized by excessive #ossification of the spine and joints. This study looked at the role of PC-1 in matrix #mineralization in the absence of other bone cells, and found that its expression and localization in matrix vesicles can regulate the extent of hydroxyapatite deposition.
