  1. Had okra and aubergine curry for tea. I think me and the lad excelled today. We are quite a team.

  2. Okra is a nutritious and delicious vegetable that is easy to grow in warm climates. It is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and it can be used in a variety of dishes. #okra #gardening #health

  3. Okra, originally from Africa, thrives in warm climates. It's easy to grow—just sow seeds in full sun and well-drained soil. Ready in 2 months, okra is a staple in Indian cuisine, used in curries like bhindi masala. Also great fried or pickled! #okra

  4. I got a beautiful bunch of okra when I was up in the 505 last weekend. Anyone have an okra recipe that they like? #food #cooking #okra

  5. Where were you seven months ago when Ross got in another (maybe not the first) altercation with a motorist in a car and got stitches? That was so long ago, my #okra was just starting to flower for the season.

  6. Good morning 🌄
    I slept in & Mom made some #CanhChuaCá 😊
It is a #Vietnamese #SourFishSoup. Mom's been making this traditional comfort dish since her childhood years. In South #Vietnam she used mostly catfish because that's the main river fish that her brothers caught, back in her village life times.

Mom used cod for this - we don't get much catfish here. We love adding lots of #okra & #beansprouts. There's celery & pineapple underneath the bean sprouts, not visible.

This #SourSoup dish originated from the #MekongDelta & is a popular entree across #SouthVietnam. Canh Chua literally translates to sour soup - this is the #fish version. We have a chicken version that we make too.

  7. #Georgia [USA] - ‘Without Walls’ Farmers Market makes debut in #GardenCityGA

    By Brontë Sorotsky
    Published: Jul. 26, 2025

GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WTOC) - "A new initiative to help #LowerIncome families buy #HealthyFood and make smart choices kicked off Saturday in Garden City.

" '#FeedTheHungry' is meeting people where they’re at to make the community as a whole healthier.

"From #okra to #nectarines, a new farmer’s market in Garden City has no shortage of healthy options. The idea for this farmer’s market came from a lack of resources when it comes to fresh foods.

" 'Trying to address #FoodDeserts in this community. And what does a #FoodDesert mean? That means limited access to fresh food,' said Charice Stroud, a volunteer with Feed the Hungry.

"Stroud is working alongside state representative Carl Gilliard to increase that access with the start of the first '#WithoutWalls' #FarmersMarket.

"On Saturday, this new farmer market kicked off with #pickling demonstrations, fresh juice making, farmer’s selling #LocalProduce, and more.

" 'It builds a healthier community, right? That’s our overall goal,' Stroud explained.

"Feed the hungry is partnering with #AgraUnity, a coalition of #BlackFarmers that focuses on supplying the food deserts In #WestChathamCounty.

"Those local farmers will be selling their products, allowing people in the community to access farm to table food at a more affordable price.

" 'We want to empower people. And a part of that is your health, what you’re consuming each and every day. So, you can come in and get some good ideas for what to bring back to your home and your family,' Stroud said.

"The 'Without Walls' Farmers Market will be held every 4th Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4704 Augusta Road in Garden City."

  9. Okra, also known as lady’s finger, hails from Africa and was brought to the Americas via the slave trade. 🌍🌱 Top tip: soak seeds overnight to speed up germination. Loves heat! ☀️ Grow with peppers—they enjoy the same warm conditions and help shade each other, boosting growth. 🌶️ #gardening #okra

  10. A very happy Okra plant growing in a fabric bag on our deck garden. This is grown from seeds I saved last year! I love the very delicate light yellow color of the petals!

Update: Also check out the tiny “veins” on the petals in the third photo — probably need to zoom way in!

  12. #Okra and #Fenugreek Extracts Safely Remove #Microplastics From Water in New Texas Research

    May 10, 2025

"The substances behind the slimy strings from okra and the gel from fenugreek seeds could trap microplastics better than a commonly used synthetic polymer.

"Texas researchers proposed in 2022 using these sticky #NaturalPolymers to clean up water. Now, they’ve found that okra and/or fenugreek extracts attracted and removed up to 90% of microplastics from #ocean water, #freshwater, and #groundwater.

"With funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, Rajani Srinivasan and colleagues at Tarleton State University found that the plant-based polymers from okra, fenugreek, and #tamarind stick to microplastics, clumping together and sinking for easy separation from water.

"In this next stage of the research, they have optimized the process for okra and fenugreek extracts and tested results in a variety of types of water.

"To extract the sticky plant polymers, the team soaked sliced okra pods and blended fenugreek seeds in separate containers of water overnight. Then, researchers removed the dissolved extracts from each solution and dried them into powders.

"Analyses published in the American Chemical Society journal showed that the powdered extracts contained #polysaccharides, which are natural polymers. Initial tests in pure water spiked with microplastics showed that:

    - One gram of either powder in a quart (one liter) of water trapped microplastics the most effectively.
    - Dried okra and fenugreek extracts removed 67% and 93%, respectively, of the plastic in an hour.
    - A mixture of equal parts okra and fenugreek powder reached maximum removal efficiency (70%) within 30 minutes.
    - The natural polymers performed significantly better than the synthetic, commercially available polyacrylamide polymer used in #wastewater treatment.

"Then the researchers tested the plant extracts on real microplastic-polluted water. They collected samples from waterbodies around Texas and brought them to the lab. The plant extract removal efficiency changed depending on the original water source.

"Okra worked best in ocean water (80%), fenugreek in groundwater (80-90%), and the 1:1 combination of okra and fenugreek in freshwater (77%).

"The researchers hypothesize that the natural polymers had different efficiencies because each water sample had different types, sizes and shapes of microplastics.

"Polyacrylamide, which is currently used to remove contaminants during wastewater treatment, has low toxicity, but its precursor #acrylamide is considered #toxic. Okra and fenugreek extracts could serve as #biodegradable and #nontoxic alternatives.

" 'Utilizing these plant-based extracts in water treatment will remove microplastics and other pollutants without introducing additional toxic substances to the treated water,' said Srinivasan in a media release, 'thus reducing long-term health risks to the population [and the environment].

"She had previously studied the use of food-grade plant extracts as non-toxic flocculants to remove textile-based pollutants from wastewater and thought, ‘Why not try microplastics?’"

  13. After the evening meal, as the sun was going down, I ventured out to finally plant out the Okra at the end of the row where the pole beans are growing. That was the last of the planting out for the season. Pole beans and rhubarb are showing signs of not being happy with the extreme heat over the last few days. Heat is supposed to break tonight, I hope. Right now at 9:30PM it's still 85°F / about 30°C.

  15. As a Black woman in Wales involved in sustainable local food and climate change mitigation, I sometimes feel like a fraud when I drive 25 miles to Cardiff so that I can buy food (all imported) from my culture. But I and many like me don't know how to grow food here. And so a project was born foodadventure.co.uk/portfolios Registration in link. Open to people who can attend workshops in Cardiff/ Valleys
