Practicing portraits with random strangers. This is Matt and he likes to fish in the San Diego river. We laughed over my childhood experiences of giving up after never catching anything. He said it took him a solid decade before he felt good at it and that it’s worth it, nothing tastes fresher.

Playing with a 300mm zoom lens around my hood last night. The old CMOS sensor multiplies it to 450mm.

Let me tell you a little bit about my neighbor Randy:
He’s one of two friends that got me back into cycling. I figured if a guy in his 70’s can ride MTB, road and fixies even though he’s got shrapnel in one of lungs from Vietnam (and by the way he still totally shreds) well then hey, I can power through a knee injury and stop making excuses.
He used to coach a youth velodrome team back in the 90’s, a little bit after I did a season there in 8th grade, another connection to my formative years that makes me feel like I really am back home. It warms heart to see that the velodrome is still going stronger than ever – it’s an meetup spot for all kinds of group rides and is the beating heart of the central urban San Diego cycling scene.
And yes he’s still pushing the envelope. I mean just look at his shirt of the world’s strongest coffee, that stuff is industrial grade jet fuel.
In short, I want to be Randy when I grow up.

"Reaching the edge of the treeline on top of the hill they could finally make out the watchtower in the distance. There were no torches or fires to be seen. No signs of greenskins. For all intents and purposes it looked abandoned. Was that a good thing?"
One of the first trips with my first #dslr, a #NikonD70 back in 2004. #PalatinateForest, southwestern Germany, most likely taken looking out from atop castle Trifels, not quite sure.
