The year before the Immaculate Reception, my family relocated from Oakland, CA to Pennsylvania. I was 10 and my brother was 9. I had already switched loyalty to the Steelers (what a team!), but my brother was rooting for the Raiders. He was devastated. To this day, I feel bad about it. That game was followed by many years of my Dad and me watching the Steelers together. Many, many fond memories there. #NFL #Steelers #NFLHistory @NFL

Don Meredith lit one up immediately after the game and he's already had just about enough of your bullshit questions. -

One of the most underrated sports facts in my opinion is the Pittsburgh Steelers have had three head coaches since 1969. The Browns have had 21 over the same time span and didn’t even exist for three of those years.

"Spider, I just saw your new football card."
"Cool! Am I tackling someone or intercepting a pass?"
"No, I think you were drinking Tang through a giant bendy straw or some shit.”

The improvement in the quality of sports fields in bad weather over the last 50 years has been very impressive.
When I watched English soccer as a kid the surfaces in February and March were mostly mud.
Scotland played the All Blacks in Auckland in 1975 and the field seemed to covered in 6 inches of water (image attached). Not these days.

He only relaxed like that after he’d gone for about 150 on you …

In 1973, Fred Dryer became the only player to register two safeties in one NFL game, which was a career day for him until he later solved two murders in one episode of Hunter.

If you're talking underrated coaches and QBs, let's start with Tom Flores and Jim Plunkett. Two Super Bowl victories and a Heisman sitting on Plunkett's mantel. Studs.

I preferred it when football coaches looked like they knew who killed Kennedy.“Fran, it’s 3rd and 10. Let’s go deep with a corner route. It was the Cubans. Johnson knew.”
“What?”
“Corner route, let’s go.”

"As bungled a call as I've ever seen."
My favourite bit of #DonCriqui & #BobTrumpy.
1988 AFC Wild Card #Oilers at #Browns
At 1h38m15s HOU runs a play and CLE recovers a dropped backwards pass from Warren Moon at the HOU 5 yard line and walks it into the End Zone.
Bob Trumpy goes absolutely bonkers at Jerry Seeman's call on the play.
It takes 5 minutes before the next play is run and there is no commercial break during that span.

I love how almost 60 years later these teams play in the same uniforms...

Immaculate Reception Original Broadcast #Raiders vs #Steelers 1972 (1m27s)
Whenever ESPN plays video from before 2000 it looks like it was shot in 1935.
This looks pretty good to me.

I've often mentioned how beautiful the Sports Illustrated covers were from the 1970s. Spectacular images. Few cover lines. Art.Look at this one from 47 years ago this week.

I don’t know who will win the Super Bowl this year but I do know their coach won’t look like he’s managing a grocery store and I feel like something important’s been lost. -
Well shit. The #Vikings Clinch the division with THE LARGEST COMEBACK in the history of the NFL. This is what I get for talking shit. How do you blow a 33 point lead in the 4th quarter???
