#BLS🇨🇭Re4/4 Class #Re425 electrics ended their career earlier today, with a working on a #Lötschberg car-carrying shuttle.
The “Brownies”, as they were affectionately called by railfans (or “Brunelis” in Swiss German), were built from the 1960s onwards.
Pictured here is one such loco hauling a passenger service at Interlaken Ost in spring 1991.

This is an #InterCity from #Basel, probably IC 331 “Val d’Ossola”, with the first six air-conditioned cars, provided by #FS #Trenitalia, going as far as #Milano 🇮🇹.

Travelling through a railway tunnel by car? #Switzerland🇨🇭has it. The #BLS for instance operates car carrying trains through the #Lötschberg tunnel between #Goppenstein and #Kandersteg (and v.v. obviously). Just grab a coffee - before driving on the train that is, since there is no on-board catering - and relax! The trip roughly takes 15 minutes.

#Brig🇨🇭 station is where the #Lötschberg, #Simplon and #Rhône valley lines meet. Later today the St. Moritz to Zermatt #GlacierExpress will also stop here. This is a busy railway hub for both, standard and narrow gauge, passenger and freight.
