In other interesting stuff, apparently Jančura and the Swiss are to blame for repeated axle counter failures in Kraków Główny. More specifically, in the latest report 02/2026, the analysis of records yielded the conclusion that the failures kept occurring after the passage of RegioJet carriages (this was in August 2025, so at the time RegioJet operated one train in Poland - the Prague-Przemyśl service for Ukraine) and the SBB panorama car carried by the Porta Moravica at the time.

With #Westbahn 🇦🇹 from #Villach to #Vienna along Lake #Wörthersee and over the #Koralm line earlier today. This is a 250 kph #Stadler #RABe501 unit, built and registered in Switzerland. It’s got a buffet counter, with snacks and drinks for purchase.

Wäre es für die DB möglich, die SBB RABe 501, also die von der SBB als Giruno bezeichneten Züge von Stadler zu kaufen? Oder hat die SBB da sozusagen ein Copyright drauf? Die Züge sind im Bezug auf Barrierearmut die besten Fernzüge, die zur Zeit in Deutschland verkehren.
Und falls es für die DB möglich wäre, habt ihr ne Idee mit welchem Hebel die DB am besten zu überzeugen wäre?
Ich weiß, dass der ICE L auch höhengleich ist. Aber er hat nur eine Tür pro Seite mit Spaltüberbrückung. Und falls diese Tür eine Türstörung hat ist für Menschen mit Rollstuhl schon wieder Schluss. Beim Giruno gibt es mindestens 4 Türen pro Zugspitze zum Einstieg mit Rollstuhl.

I need a new laptop (and your help).

I recently lost my «Framework Laptop 13» (Intel 12th Gen i7, 64GB RAM) on the train. It never reappeared, although it was left in a train heading for the depot. (Was it stolen by the cleaning personal?)

Now I need a new device.

I'm not really keen on getting another Framework device because of their «Big Tent» approach (and supporting far-right activists without regretting it), even though they have really nice hardware. Looking at you, @frameworkcomputer.

The new device should have about the same specs as the old one: a recent CPU, at least 64 GB of memory, be around the same size and weight as the «Framework 13», be easily repairable and upgradable. It will run Fedora. An open firmware would be a plus.

Is there anything out like this?

I'm thinking about getting a Tuxedo laptop (@tuxedocomputers), but I’m not entirely sure if it's the best fit. Does anyone have suggestions for a device that meets these criteria.

What are your suggestions? Thanks for any hints.
