#Morez (Jura) 🇫🇷, is a nice little town close to the Swiss🇨🇭border. In autumn 2004, when these photos were taken, the old-fashioned, charming train station has seen a variety of workings by the iconic (and meanwhile withdrawn) #SNCF class #X2800 Diesel units in their twilight years. #PastTrainTrips

An #FS 🇮🇹 class #ALe601 unit, photographed at #Roma Termini in April 1983. Among the trains worked by these units: the #Rapido “Peloritano” composed of several sections, i.a. to and from #Palermo and #Siracusa, crossing the Strait of #Messina between #Sicily and the mainland by ferry.

While travelling from #Venice to #Milan in November 2002 I came across this #FS #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 class E.402A electric working an eastbound #Intercity. Back then the loco was still displaying its original red and white livery and the “logo inclinato” on its nose.

It’s not one of Europe’s fastest train journeys but its old railway charm is hard to beat: #Bulgaria’s 🇧🇬 #Rhodope narrow-gauge line, reaching 1,267 m a.s.l. at #Avramovo, making this the highest point of any railway line in the #Balkans. Pictures taken in June 2010.
