Es wäre sehr hilfreich, wenn die #MAV die Durchsagen im Zug auch in einer anderen Sprache als Ungarisch machen könnte. In irgendeiner! Zumindest im #Eurocity nach Wien wär das echt szuper, köszi szepen!

Im Astaro

Ein extrem schöner Zug ist der Astaro nicht. Zumindest von aussen nicht. Die Spitze finde ich persönlich viel zu spitz. Im Zug hingegen, in den futuristischen Schalensitzen, lässt es sich gut sitzen, obwohl gerade diese Schalen sich etwas eigenartig anfühlen. Wenigstens gäbe es so bei einem vollen Abteil keine Probleme mit der Platzaufteilung – auch zwischen Personen mit sehr unterschiedlichen Posturen.

Am Sonntag fuhr ich nach dem Gottesdienst und dem anschliessenden Mittagessen direkt nach Zürich. Einmal mehr zog es mich in den Zoo. Von Winterthur her gibt es bedeutend bessere Anschlüsse dorthin, als wenn man vom Tösstal her kommt: Mit verschiedenen S-Bahnen, InterRegios, InterCitys – oder eben auch mit dem EuroCity von München.

Gestern erwischte ich den EC um 12:03. Also ja: Nein. Nicht wirklich. Aber doch. Ja. Einmal mehr hatte der Zug rund eine halbe Stunde Verspätung. Den Grund dafür hatte ich nicht mitbekommen, aber ich schätze mal, dass es sich um das klassische „Ereignis im Ausland“ handelte. Jedenfalls konnte ich einigermassen bequem und gelassen um 12:33 in den Zug einsteigen, der doch eigentlich schon lange hätte weg sein sollen.

Und kam so zu meiner ersten Astaro-Fahrt …

Im #EC64 #EuroCity von #Domodossola nach #Brig habe ich dank 1. Klasse Upgrade einen pragmatischen Türplatz ergattert. So bin ich als Premium Kunde als erster auf dem Bahnsteig.

Ausserdem erlaube ich mir einen Hinweis an meinen Schweizer Marktbegleiter: die #Klimaanlage im #Alstom #ETR610 funktioniert sehr viel besser als die im striegelnagelneuen Centopups.

In early 2020 I travelled from #Zurich🇨🇭HB to #Munich 🇩🇪 Hbf on a loco hauled #Eurocity. The train reversed at #Lindau, where this photo was taken. A single #DB Class 218 diesel was coupled onto the train, ahead of a trip over the scenic #Allgäu line via #Kempten. Nowadays #SBB tilting trains use a more northerly, and electrified, route via #Memmingen, without reversing at Lindau.

Im #Speisewagen gibt es ein großes Schweizer Kreuz!

Der Zug hat auch ein AED dabei (habe ICE auch).

Und zeigt wenn er schnell fährt wie schnell er gerade ist und wie lange er so fahren wird.

Es gibt ein fröhliches Kinderabteil.

Good Morning from the #SBB🇨🇭#EuroCity #61 to #Milano 🇮🇹 via the #Lötschberg and #Simplon routes. Breakfast in the #elventino #DiningCar as we leave #Basel. Beautiful views of Lake #Thunersee (with a northbound SBB double-decker InterCity train from #Interlaken in the foreground).

Fancying Austrian cuisine, in a Swiss restaurant? Try the #SBB🇨🇭#DiningCar on #EuroCity #Transalpin, a train linking these two countries. The diner is the type of car you will otherwise find on many Swiss InterCity trains, yet the menu and staff are Austrian, the same as on #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #Railjet trains.

Going through the photos taken yesterday while travelling on #EuroCity #164 #Transalpin. The long consist was first hauled by one #ÖBB 🇦🇹 Class 1016/1116 #Taurus electric, then by two of them for the steep gradients on the #Arlberg line. Finally an #SBB🇨🇭#Re460 brought us, on time, into #Zurich HB.

After the first #DB #DSB #ECE #Eurocity train from #Hamburg to #Kopenhagen had a blocking brake near Rendsburg we had to switch to another one there after over an hour stop on the rails.

Now the new train (same type) is rolling, but electric power from the seat plugs was off until the headlights were switched on (after an hour), heating wasn't working first and the signage monitors behave strange: We were riding into the unknown...

Is this the #talgo230 and does it have design problems?

A train, as #European 🇪🇺 as it gets. This is #EuroCity #175 “Jan Jesenius”, pictured here at Bad Schandau in May 2013. It used to serve four European capital cities on its daylong trip from #Hamburg: #Berlin 🇩🇪, #Prague 🇨🇿, #Bratislava 🇸🇰 and #Budapest 🇭🇺, a journey of more than 18 hours. Luckily there was a @diningcar 😉.

Right after I stopped being a frequent traveler on the Budapest - Prague - Berlin railway line last autumn, most of the EuroCity trains got upgraded to be Czech Railjets.

I noticed because these trains almost literally pass through my backyard, finally took one for a 30min domestic trip yesterday.

Seems to be an upgrade compared to the old rundown MÁV & co. rolling stock.

Neither the schedule, nor the notoriously bad punctuality has improved though.

Going through photos taken earlier this week. Pictured here is #EuroCity 213 “Comenius”, originating at #Bohumín 🇨🇿, with a through car from #Prague, to #Kraków 🇵🇱. The train was hauled by a #ČD #Siemens #ES64U4-type Class 1216 #Taurus electric. And there was the Czech #DiningCar (of the WRmz 815 type, for the nerds) where I enjoyed a freshly cooked pork roast. There aren’t many diners on European rails where there’s a chef doing some real cooking (as opposed to microwaving convenience food).

#EuroCity #206 “Porta Moravica” from #Graz and #Vienna 🇦🇹 to #Kraków 🇵🇱 via #Ostrava 🇨🇿 has got something special on offer for #DiningCar buffs: meals are freshly cooked on board the Czech diner, a rare feature at times when micro-waved convenience food has become common practice. I really enjoyed my Schnitzel, and the chef as well as the dining car attendant were just great.
