A Limpkin showed up in an adjacent county last week. Since we had not seen one since 1998(!), we decided to chase it yesterday.
It turned out to be quite cooperative. Here are a few pictures my wife took.

Limpkin Couple
It was a bittersweet return to Myakka River State Park after its double-destruction, first the Weir, and then Hurricane Ian…
But it is spring, nature is eternal & resilient, and nesting season is here.
I saw none of the usual spoonbills & glossy ibises, and few herons, though gators were abundant, along with anhingas & limpkins.

This photograph is of a #limpkin or #cryingbird, #Aramusguarauna, in the #Orlando #Wetlands #Park in Christmas, #Florida.
Limpkins range from southern Georgia, to the Florida #peninsula, though the #Caribbean islands, and into South America.
They feed mostly on #snails, #applesnails primarily, but also eat other small mollusks, insects, and seeds.
