We had another new visitor in the garden early this morning! I've seen these when I volunteered at Wild Bird Fund in NYC but never in the wild. I just learned that they sometimes venture into gardens when it is very cold and the ground is too frozen for them to dig for bugs. They figured out that garden soil is often a little softer. So amazing 🤩

Last May the first ever Grey-headed Lapwing in the UK was seen at Low Newton in Northumberland - now apparently there's another one at East Chevington Nature Reserve!

Perhaps the most exciting bird we saw that day was the Little Bustard. We saw 3 different male birds. This bird is quite difficult to see, besides it's camoflauge, it's habitat is being destroyed so there are not many of them left in our province. Sadly the thing that is destroying the habitat the most are solar farms, thousands and thousands. After quietly traversing the heavily wooded, brushy area around a small, secluded pond last October, my husband and I saw this rare pair of Sandhill Cranes who utterly charmed us with their calls and antics.

Es gibt noch immer keine #veganen Foodfotos von mir im Moment.
Dafür aber wieder einen Vogel, heute das Männchen.Es ist Knopfaugig und könnte ein ausgeblichenes Schwarzkehlchen sein. Es ist sowas ähnliches. Der Kanarenschmätzer. Diese Vogelart kommt nur auf Fuerteventura vor. Sonst nirgendwo auf der Erde. Und hier wohl mit weniger als 1000 Brutpaaren.
In Englisch heist das Schwarzkehlchen European Stonechat und der hier Canary Island Stone Chat oder sogar Fuerteventura Stonechat.
Finde ich besser. Fuerteventzrakehlchen klingt doch süß.

One of my special interests is birds and whilst out birding with a friend this weekend we found something interesting! The photos were taken down my friends scope using my phone and so I apologise for the quality.
This rather plain looking bird is actually quite an exciting find! A lesser yellow legged (Tringa flavipes) 💕

UPDATE: Additional photos have confirmed this bird’s eye has a light blue iris. Thus this is a leucistic Raven and not albinistic.

Mountain Bluebirds are some of the most beautiful birds we have in Canada, but are not usually seen where I live. However, I heard of one from eBird's rare bird alert and decided to check it out, see if I could spot it. I was the first one out this morning at 8 am and didn't see it at first, but after a bit, there it was! A gorgeous bird!
