Why can’t people figure out that any article that begins with “Trump says” should be immediately thrown in the trash?
-
The difference is by design.

Between Slashdot and the cited Wired article, the only source provided is a Microsoft employee who *certainly* had no reason to be less than honest.
Giving them far more credit than they deserve, I want to see the published findings and methods
Using my brain along with the available evidence, I think I’ll just disregard this nonsense on its face

Hey The News? Your headlines about the ego parade are appalling. Know what really brought "1000s" out to DC? #NoKings Millions if you count every state. Stop glorifying Trump's ego fest. He called the military "suckers/losers," he uses them as props, he exploits them. #JournalisticMalpractice

the full line is "When you upload or input information through Firefox, you hereby grant us a nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use that information to help you navigate, experience, and interact with online content as you indicate with your use of Firefox." (emphasis mine)
That's legalese for "when you use firefox to put data on the internet, you can't sue us for putting that data on the internet bc telling our browser to send your data somewhere is the same as giving us permission to do that"
This is a completely reasonable thing for them to state; to cut the quote off as in the OP is at best misleading and at worst malicious and inflammatory.

The NYT fact-checked Trump’s news conference.
Stop with the stand alone and separate stories.
Report Tя☭mp lies and half-truths in every story. -
I hope @mediabiasfactcheck or others put some actual effort into studying the insane media bias that stained the entire 2024 election cycle, from reminding us every 5 minutes that Biden is old and questioning his mental fitness constantly, to writing excuses for Stupid and suddenly ceasing to find any interest in age and mental fitness once Harris took the torch, to the relentless sanewashing of Stupid while holding Harris to a far higher standard, even back to the months and year prior to the election, when they were constantly banging the drum of a recession that never happened and giving people the impression that the economy was terrible, despite all evidence to the contrary.
The media not only failed to educate people about what was really going on, they actively participated in promulgating the distortion perceived by the public.

In Trump-land …
- Rally speaker called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage”
- Elon Musk promised “tank the economy” means “hardship” for the middle class
- Mike Johnson promised to kill Obamacare if Trump wins
- Musk PAC carted door knockers around in the back of a UHaulYet in WaPo, NYT, political journalism-land … the focus is on a gaffe
-
Why is Biden’s one-time GAFFE a “firestorm,” Axios, but Trump’s repeated epithets(“poisoning blood”) and flat out lies (“eating dogs and cats”) is ho-f….ing-hum?

Eugene Robinson details “The double standard for Harris and Trump” in this column. He laments vapid news coverage.
“Somehow, it is apparently baked into this campaign that Trump is allowed to talk and act like a complete lunatic while Harris has to be perfect in every way.”

This piece in Wapo about Trump's insane speech does a good job of portraying how confused and nonsensical and deranged it was.
https://archive.is/20241002153832/https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/10/01/trump-wisconsin-swerves-subjects/Then you read the Times article on the same speech, and sure, they describe it as disjointed, but they very determinedly try to make sense of it and turn it into actual coherent points, because they just refuse to say "Trump made no sense for over an hour." #JournalisticMalpractice

It's not just us noticing that the NY Times frequently bends over backwards to sanewash that blithering moron in an effort to make him appear to be a coherent adult instead of a deranged, demented dimwit.

Dear @cnn, stop using non-scientific framing.

So there CANNOT BE a heartbeat.

HOW DID I MISS THIS???
Could it be because the follow up was non-existent? Google isn’t giving anything about the guy and very little on his indictment two weeks ago.
“Frank Carillo, 66, is accused of posting more than 4,000 comments …threaten[ing] several public officials, including Harris…”

Trump's calls for blood: when fact checkers confuse substance and precision
Yes, Harris combined two speeches. Had she said “there will be blood” instead of the shorthand, bloodbath, the fact checkers would have been silent.
But the substance – that Trump is calling for ‘bloody’ mass deportation with no apparent thought about consequences – is true.

Reminder from @TheGuardian that the mess that is today’s news coverage of Trump started in 2016:
“in a scathing analysis of 2016 election coverage, the Columbia Journalism Review noted that ‘in just six days, The New York Times ran as many cover stories about Hillary Clinton’s emails as they did about all policy issues combined in the 69 days leading up to the election’.”

Trump pivots from lies to threats; most news organizations ignore the shift
If you go to the home page of the New York Times, the Washington Post or CNN looking for information about what is at stake in November, you’ll be greeted by stories about polls: educated guesses about what voters might do in less than 60 days. What you won’t see are headlines like these:

Seeking headlines, #Trump announces “plan” to sue the federal government.
Reporters bite. As they always do.
IF he files, THEN report it. 🤦🏼♀️
Until then, It Is Rumor. FFS. -
The only people saying what Tom Nichols writes here are independent journalists, a few traditional opinion/columnists, and magazine journalists.
It’s criminal malpractice.
How many dissertations will come out of media failures from 2015-2025 (anticipating because you know he’ll contest the results).
