Even though it's set in the Great Depression, I want to live in the America imagined in Capra's I It Happened One Night (1934). It's rough-edged and messy but also full of hope and decency. It espouses freedom in the best way. It's brimming with goodness.

Just watched The Sure Thing for the umpteenth time. Mostly because I re-watched It Happened One Night last night and since Sure Thing is a loose re-make it made sense.

Both excellent, both dated with some of-the-age problematic material.

I was surprised how much they had in common. You could see where scenes had been inspired by the earlier film e.g. Gib's essay about eating pizza and Peter's exposition on how to dunk donuts.
