This Week in Leif & Thorn:

Trouble at the hospital where Dagny’s (most recent) father died…

‘Wicked’ author says one line in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ inspired Elphaba and Glinda’s backstory

And we all instantly recognized the source of this Electric Light Orchestra LP cover. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #wizardofoz

That "State Fair Omaha" balloon finally bugged me enough to look it up: The Nebraska State Fair rotated between Omaha & Lincoln until 1901, then settled in Lincoln until moving to Grand Island in 2011. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #wizardofoz

All this great original soundtrack music, but for the big chase scene they dropped in "Night on Bald Mountain" by Modest Mussorgsky. I know there are other borrowed tunes, but this is just the most obvious. #WizardofOz #svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

#WizardofOz trivia fans know the cut dance number was "The Jitterbug," nothing like the Jitterbug dance just then becoming popular, but they didn't want to hook up to a current fad. And I agree it would have broken the flow of the forest scene. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

All the #WizardofOz scenes with fire obviously used REAL flame. But luckily the audience chamber with Oz is not where the actors are, for safety's sake. And wasn't that kind of what being called into the principal's office was like? #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

Can't nail down the source of tonight's #Sventune. It MAY be "Play a Simple Melody" by Irving Berlin. #wizardofoz #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

And time to get coated with asbestos! #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #wizardofoz

Another great gag: Scarecrow & Tin Man try to snap their fingers in defiance of the witch. #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie #WizardofOz
And how did they get "I'm just a DANDY-lion" past the Hays office!?

Now at age 60-something, the scariest part of #WizardofOz is Bolger's Scarecrow dance, where her leaps high in the air and falls flat on his back! Owwwwwww! #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

Wait! When the Mayor proclaimed "This is a day of independence,
For all the Munchkins and their descendants!"
Did the guy next to him add "If any!"
#WizardofOz
And Glinda already looked 3 sheets to the wind.

@heymcdermott oh I was 3 or 4 and it was terrifying! #svengoolie #wizardOfOz

3. The house dashes to the ground, & Dorothy's reaction is only, "…Oh!"

And Professor Marvel uses the same method as every "psychic" working the gullible today. #WizardofOz #Svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie

I freely admit: seeing #WizardofOz at age 5, on parents' 12" B&W set, scared me spitless!
Now I see it's because those practical special effects looked real (within the reality of those tiny sets and great backgrounds). And horror is leavened by really funny gags! #svengoolie #HouseofSvengoolie
