I tried writing a spoof of the Model of a Modern Major General song for my friend's birthday (which I will not post here because it's personal), and I realized half-way through that I had unintentionally comitted to an "AAAAAAAA" rhyming scheme: every line in the entire song must rhyme with "ghost." Despite easily finding a lot of words that rhyme with ghost, some of them were quite tricky to get at the end of the line (I really struggled to get "bedpost" and "toast" at the end.)

Karla DeVito – Is This A Cool World Or What?
Epic – FE 37014
Vinyl, LP, Album
Canada
Sep 1981
Rock, Pop
AOR, Soft RockI forgot how punchy this album is off the top -- the title cut rocks! One of my record fair re-acquisitions.
On then to the 3rd cut - Heaven Can Wait -- yes, a good cover of the Meat Loaf tune from Bat Out of Hell. Makes sense, as Karla was on the album tour. And she appeared in the Paradise by the Dashboard Light video (but lip-synched to Ellen Foley's original album vocals).
But wait, there's more... my favorite cut is Bloody Bess -- penned by DeVito -- and perhaps a nod to her time on Broadway as Mabel, the female lead in The Pirates of Penzance (my favorite G&S). A rollicking pirate-themed tune that could have been the basis for a rock opera?
Yeah, it's an entertaining album, especially when you have all the background.

So yeah, Director Wilford Leach wanted to keep as much of the 1980 Central Park production for the film so the most of the main cast, the sets, etc. are pretty much the same and only a few scene lines of spoken dialogue were added. You can watch the 1980 production here (https://youtu.be/6Bp_M0NQkrg?si=aW-Ty3MPDGvxEGVm) but unfortunately it’s not great quality

Today seems like a good day to post this. This version of "Pirates of Penzance" is so good that I can almost forgive the godawful cheesy synth accompaniment.

#SourceOfTheDance
We're still working through #PiratesOfPenzance, and have just reached "Oh! False One" which is actually one of my favorite bits, mostly because it's such a good Mozart schtick. -

The arms granted to the municipal borough of Penzance in 1934 contain a pirate wearing the costume used in the play. Penzance once had a rugby team called the Penzance Pirates, now known as the Cornish Pirates.

Hurrah for the Pirate King!
It is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King! -
The cabin boy who is also your apprentice but doesn't take you seriously is also your conscript until he's 21 years old, and you're counting the seconds.
And then you find out he was born on February 29 in a leap year, so multiply the years by a factor of 4.

As Google and Meta keep threatening to keep threatening to make good on their earlier threats, I keep being reminded of this exchange from Pirates of Penzance. https://youtu.be/o8JcIAV5wms #yesbutyoudontgo #C18 #BillC18 #Google #Meta #Facebook #OnlineNewsAct #SenateofCanada #cdnpoli #Canada #GilbertandSullivan #PiratesofPenzance

Here's #LeeSklar talking about an ultimate #SessionFromHell but first, if you have not seen #PiratesOfPenzance in at least one of it's incarnations you are incomplete ! But this also of course is #LindaRonstadt so ...
What Lee talks about here is much easier now with stem separation software via tools like #Izotope and #Melodyne- they needed to replace live production instruments to rebuild tracks and as you"ll hear the music and dialog are insane
