#PennedPossibilities 1155: Do you enjoy musicals? If so, what’s your favorite one? Has it ever brought you inspiration for a story?
I have two (actually three) points to make here. Number one, I love Broadway and musicals in general. My cousin worked on Broadway as well, so it’s something special in my family. I’ve seen so many shows. I have too many favorites, but here are a few I love dearly: Le Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Colm Wilkinson and Patrick Page are my two loves, too. And we can’t forget Babs. That woman has all my heart.
Number two, I’ll add something else as well. Putting Broadway aside, I love Classic Hollywood as well. It was the Golden Age of Cinema, especially for musicals. Older films are all I watch, to be fair. Movie Musicals are a great love of mine. Fred Astaire, Maurice Chevalier, Robert Preston, Judy Garland, Rita Moreno, and Gene Kelly, just to name a few stars. They were truly the best of the best. Don’t even get me started on my love of Bob Fosse...
And number three, I’m also a gigantic opera fan. But that's a conversation for another day... My girlfriend is a classically trained singer, so we immediately bonded over that when we met.
Everything can be an inspiration for storytelling. Life inspires us. Stories. Heartache. Good music. It’s all beautiful. After all, good stories inspire good stories, and so on and so forth.
