According to Israeli TV station N12 the U.S. has threatened to impose an arms embargo on #Israel if it does not resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza within the next month. The White House has expressed deep concern over the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Gaza in recent weeks and has called for urgent steps to reverse this trend.

Other media sources are speculating whether #IDF had in fact activated the perfectly Nazi sounding “Eiland procedure” (or so called “General's Plan”) in the north of Gaza Strip, according to which, the IDF will give all civilians in northern Gaza one week to evacuate the area. After that, any remaining civilians would be considered combatants and targeted for death by the military. The plan would also block all food, water, fuel, and medical supplies from entering northern Gaza.

Eiland has stated that under this plan, Hamas would "either have to surrender or to starve," and that "it will not be necessary" for the Israeli military to kill everyone in northern Gaza as "people will not be able to live there. The water will dry up."

  2. #Palestine / Australia imposes sanctions on Israeli settlers, youth group over West Bank violence

Foreign Minister Penny Wong specifically mentioned that the sanctions are in response to "extremist settlers perpetrating violence against Palestinians, including sexual violence."

[…] The unnamed group was responsible for inciting and perpetrating violence against Palestinians, while the settlers had been involved in beatings, sexual assault and torture and in some cases death,

  3. #Israel / Israel's High Court Cannot Hold Back the Legal Avalanche Against the Occupation

For too long, #Israel's legal system distorted international law norms and whitewashed crimes committed by soldiers and settlers against Palestinians through lack of accountability. The emerging "legal avalanche" against Israel from international bodies is a consequence of its judiciary insisting on enabling violations of the laws of occupation for decades.

Rather than a “judicial overhaul” planned and payed for by right-wing American Jews - many of whom support the occupation - what’s needed in Israel is a meaningful legal reform to create accountability and regain credibility in line with international standards. Otherwise, Israel's #complementarity claims will continue ringing hollow to the #ICC, among others.

  4. #Paelstine / Israeli abuse of jailed Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti ‘amounts to torture’

Marwan Barghouti is a Palestinian politician and former leader of the al-Mustaqbal (The Future) Party. In April 2002, he was arrested by Israeli authorities on suspicion of involvement in several terrorist attacks. He was accused of ordering and participating in multiple murders, as well as being a member of a terrorist organization (the AMB). After a lengthy trial, he was convicted and sentenced to five life terms plus 40 years. His political philosophy combines Palestinian nationalism, secularism and democratic principles.

Human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have documented the abuses described in the article, and called for #Israel to take concrete steps to address the situation. However, despite international condemnation, the Israeli government has largely ignored these concerns and continued its policies.

[…] “What Barghouti has endured amounts to torture, but that has become standard across all detention facilities since 7 October,” said Tal Steiner, of the rights group the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel. The Israeli prison service did not respond when contacted for comment. Both PCATI and the International Committee of the Red Cross have been denied formerly routine visits to Israeli prisons since last October.

[…] Steiner added that PCATI collected 19 testimonies from prisoners describing physical assault, sexual or other types of humiliation as well as sleep, food and medical deprivation.

[…] “If this is how they allow themselves to treat high-profile prisoners like Barghouti, imagine what they do to detainees who don’t have the same profile,” she said, describing the overall level of abuse as “unprecedented”.
