I'm all for #HotCompost, but sometimes, it can be too hot!
Can #Compost Catch Fire? What to Know About #SpontaneousCombustion
"Spontaneous combustion in compost and mulch systems is a real and well-documented fire risk associated with the natural heat generated during decomposition. While composting is generally very safe when managed properly, large or poorly maintained piles can create conditions where heat builds faster than it can escape. In rare cases, internal temperatures may become high enough for materials to ignite without any outside spark or flame source."
Keeping one's compost pile we helps to prevent that from happening. The article goes on to say,
"Why Heat Management Matters
Heat itself is not the problem. Heat is a normal sign that decomposition is occurring.
The concern develops when:
- Piles become excessively large
- Airflow becomes restricted
- Material dries internally
- Temperatures remain unchecked
- Heat accumulates faster than it dissipates"Learn more:

I just had a wonderful through-the-fence chat with my next-door neighbor, whom I noticed had expanded her chicken set-up. She's not only expanded things, but is now supplying local #FoodPantries with farm-fresh eggs. Wow! She rocks! And yeah. I'll be trading produce for manure gold with her soon! #HotCompost, here we come!

Brain wandering down the garden path again... I started thinking about "hot composters" earlier.
I always remember the very nice one Steve "Greenside Up" :'( tested out on his YouTube channel. They're over £600 to buy though so that certainly isn't happening!
I do have two 2.4x1.2 sheets of styrofoam type insulation spare amongst leftover work junk. And there's that IBC upside down in the ditch behind the new #allotment plot that I''ve no specific use for but cannot really stay put as "the wildlife deck". I'm pondering a way to combine these two things to make a robust hot-composter that also retains the tasty "juices" that come from it as a liquid amendment. 🤔
The first key design decision is whether the insulation goes inside or outside the IBC shell. There are clear advantages to both options... but I'm thinking outside probably, though inside would make a more robust construction I think, especially using this kinda weak "jablite" stuff.

Every good #communityGarden has a big compost heap and a compost enthusiast.
One of the best #gym #workouts out there is tossing (read: #airating) that #compost. All you need is a big ol' #pitchFork and #shovel. Your legs, and entire body will do the rest.
Go!
