So, HalifaxSocial.ca is shutting down on June 1st. The users were notified quite a while ago, and most have found new homes by now. It's clear to see who the users are that don't view Mastodon as a first-class social network and are probably solely using automated tools to post. What an amazing welcome I have experienced switching instances to #mstdnca due to the impending shutdown of the lovely little #halifaxsocial - thank you for welcoming me.
I made a donation to the upkeep of the server, I love this more inclusive way to do social media in the #fediverse on #mastodon - keep doing what you do!

Good morning all! Thanks for all the engagement/boosts/likes/welcome messages overnight. I'm sad to leave behind almost 5 months of content on #HalifaxSocial but good to be settling into another place in the Fediverse.

This is a tough job, big thanks to @petersmithca for taking this on, he provided the stepping stone for all the local folks (Halifax, Nova Scotia, and beyond) to get off the Nazi Network and over here to do some real Social Media.
A thankless job too, any errors, we're quick to pick up, but there's not time to investigate.
Will still be there, while we gather up our friend and move them over to new accounts over the next few months.
I found a good Fediverse server that works, and others may wish to try this out too?
You'll have time to look around, bigger is not always better, and certainly no faster.

One month ago today, I was trying to get Mastodon installed and configured.
The next day, after fighting for hours with media storage, we launched.
Small expectations were overwhelmed, and we have a great community now.
