I moved our mastodon #instance to #ReliableSite and after one month of service they announced that they suddenly need to increase the cost of our dedicated server from $20 a month to $50. They claim the post of replacement parts has gone up so they must pass that cost on to others. I am beyond pissed. Now I have to find another dedicated server and migrate again for the third time in 3 months!

This is why #mastodon is not better embraced by people.

- Built for Grecian's it is designed for those trying to build an updated computer based on the Antikythera mechanism, analytical engine, abacus or similar. Mmm... now that is a citizen project worth pursuing and miniaturising
- Meanwhile I am trying to download #snac2 to run my own #thumb-drive #instance/#server on it. Grateful for any help. Otherwise may have to use #FreeBSD

In other news, my one comment (the first one for their 25th years online edition) was removed by #distrowatch. Are they being what is the word... 'fascistic'?

De, ha már saját szerver / #instance, a #Mastodon beépíthetné az adminba, hogy ott is lehessen egyszerűen csak egy admin beállítással karakterlimitet változtatni.

Jelenleg nálam 5000 karakter a limit.
Az instance automatikus frissítésen van.

Jelenleg minden #Docker konténeremet egyetlen script frissíti, ami minden nap mentést készít, majd végig megy a Docker mappáján, és ahol talál compose fájlt, azt frissíti automatikusan. Ezalól az egyetlen kivétel a Mastodon.

A Mastodont egy teljesen külön szkript frissíti minden hajnalban négykor (nyilván, ha van frissítés), de úgy, hogy utána azonnal belenyúl a kódba, hogy az általam alkalmazott beállítások érvénybe lépjenek. Máskülönben, mindig visszaállna 500 karakternyi limitre.
