  1. 2/2 I was inspired by:

-bike advocates who helped ensure a bike path stays available on the Golden Gate Bridge (super busy today)
-advocates who successfully got a section of Great Highway closed to cars & turned it into a wonderful linear park by the beach (this is what Lake WA Blvd in Seattle should become!)
-gorgeous weather which led me to keep biking another 10+ miles when I only planned on crossing the GG Bridge

  2. @MLNow #AlanWong is not stupid. Good for him Apparently he wants to get elected following his nomination.

He knows what the majority of the people in the #SunsetDistrict want & it's to reopen the #GreatHighway for daily use & allow it be closed on weekends which is a reasonable compromise, except for those YIMBY people who just moved into the Sunset & who live elsewhere in The City who don't have to deal with the traffic in the area, especially since 19th Ave is now also bogged down with repaving.

  3. I’d like to ask all the people grousing about the transformation of the #GreatHighway into a car-free park about this virtual freeway cutting through #GoldenGatePark. 💀 indeed. pixelfed.social/p/brentsleeper

  4. I was moved by this interactive installation on #GreatHighway at Ortega St., in #SanFrancisco’s new #SunsetDunes park. I watched several other people take a stone and speak into the phone. One of the artists was there, cleaning and refreshing the container of stones.

  5. Claims abound, but how would it actually affect west-side commutes if Proposition K passes and a major part of SF’s Great Highway closes?

Here’s our full analysis, based on local studies and expert interviews. #SFMTA #GreatHighway #Election2024 sfpublicpress.org/impacts-traf

  6. @SFPublicPress

    Closing #GreatHighway, the parkway that
・runs 2 miles with no exits, turn outs, or businesses
・controls cars to 35mph and has no stopping zones or parking
・is separated from the residential buildings that overlook it by 130 feet of greenspace

    Is critical to their businesses.

Yeah… sure it is. I mean, who wants to have a large public attraction near their place of business? People might come because they find it attractive, and then what would happen?

    Nothing good, I'm sure.

  7. EXCLUSIVE:

A merchants group is opposing an #SF ballot measure that would close the #GreatHighway to car traffic and transform it into a park.

The measure could hurt foot traffic to businesses and delay merchandise deliveries, they say. sfpublicpress.org/merchants-op

  8. @suldrew @BruceHalperin That's a fantastic idea! My family has been going to dinner from the Outstanding in the Field people for 10+ years and having a meal outdoors with a big group of people is always fun but something like Thanks/Friendsgiving would be amazing. Five-block table next year?
