  1. I'm enjoying the use of Ghost even if the ActivityPub support needs quite some help. (Do they welcome help, as in patches?)

I have just created a feature request to support hashtags in ActivityPub posts (now they render as plain text). If you share this pain and you have an account in their forum, consider adding your vote:

    forum.ghost.org/t/support-for-

Speaking of hashtag, is there one for this project? "ghost" is too generic.

  3. 404media.co/patreon-lays-off-2

"Conte included the email sent to Patreon employees in the message. In the email, he wrote that the company is undergoing both a “workforce reduction” and is “changing our organizational structure and how we work.” Specifically, he wrote, this means “we’re flattening the organization, refocusing teams on our top priorities, and evolving key aspects of our operations to make us faster at adapting to change.”"

I'm guessing since Patreon has shifted its billing structure due to forced Apple subscription billing models, teams of legacy backend engineers who previously spent their days maintaining those distinct, non-subscription payment structures are at a loss?

Every Engineer clenches their jaw at the word "flattening" at this point.

"Compliance Deadline: To prevent Apple from pulling the Patreon app off the iOS App Store, Patreon required all creators on legacy billing to migrate to subscription billing (with a final deadline of November 1, 2026)."

Will there be an exodus to Ghost?....

  5. Lots of #GhostBlog self-hosters are getting hit with waves of spam sign-ups.

  7. For #GhostBlog cases where you want LLMs to read your site, or tolerate it, the latest version of Ghost makes this less resource intensive for both the server and the client by offering responses in Markdown for clients who ask for it.

    github.com/TryGhost/Ghost/pull

Or maybe as a human you prefer reading Markdown over HTML anyway!

  9. So, as I've mentioned, I got a spare old #desktop computer and my friend has suggested to turn it into a #server . Which is cool and all that - but for what reason? Just because I can didn't seem to be a good reason for me...however, I've kinda realized I can do a couple things at once.
By making a server (based on #debian13 netinstall) and moving my webpage from shared hosting and Wordpress to #selfhosting and #ghostblog I can actually claim some #digitalfreedom .
    And then it's hit me.
You know the meme "split, bro?" ?
If you are into the #underground music scene, especially in the #gorenoise #goregrind #punk #dbeat #grindcore and probably also some other genres, you might be familiar with it.
So to learn something useful, I've decided to create Split, Bro? app. Small, self-hosted, dedicated to help those unknown, underground bands and projects to find their split partners for joint releases.
And although it will need some more polishing and some features are #wip , I am quite happy with the outcome!!!
If you want to have a look:

    splitbro.app/

and don't forget to give me a feedback here! Much appreciated!

  11. It took me two morning sessions to finally get my #ghostblog running on my #selfhosted home server.
Although I did use AI to help me with various issues, I have to say I view this experience very positively - I am slowly (but steadily) learning stuff from reading logs (I would never imagine that, haha), repetitive command inputting helps with memorizing them and what they actually do...So far, I am very satisfied with my progress, might be a small step for the mankind, but a big leap for me :)

  13. @technews My first impression of Emdash, the "spiritual successor" to WordPress by Cloudflare is that it will reproduce a crap experience for admins, but now written in TypeScript. The basic architecture is the same and plugins have the same permissions to add content to the dashboard, so enshittification will continue. By contrast, #GhostBlog is a true spiritual successor to the better days of #Wordpress before it pivoted from a blog engine to a content management system.

  15. New blog post out now!
I'm talking a bit about how it all began, why I still push the blog to Codeberg, my short lived journey with Elfsight and why I'm now on Ghost.

I kept it really short since I don't think it needs much words.
For that, there are 7 posts planned for next month so stay tuned!

  17. For bloggers who post YouTube video embeds, here's a YouTube embed code generate which generates more privacy-friendly HTML to embed:

It also happens to load faster.

  19. @elkcityhazard Here are screenshots of the #WordPress vs #GhostBlog admin dashboards before/after migration. (The Ghost stats aren't accurate because it's pre-launch / pre-import).

Ghost(Pro) also integrates analytics for newsletters, web traffic and has direct ActivityPub integration as well!

  21. @elkcityhazard It's also an excellent time to reconsider WordPress altogether. I'm helping a ~1,000 post site move to Ghost now.

Ghost doesn't have plugins (so no plugin security problems!), yet can handle what 50 plugins were doing. Why?

Ghost has good SEO, newsletter integration, and tips / donations.

Ghost is not a full CMS and doesn't complete with WordPress on all fronts, but sure is refreshingly more pleasant to manage and use!

  23. Hum, trying out the Ghost Fediverse integration and for now I see:

    • No Ghost -> Akkoma notes, but likes carry over
    • Private mentions on both Akkoma and Mastodon are not sent to Ghost (or at least not displayed?)

Need more testing, but I hope to find the reason for this! I would love to have it fix or at least help

  25. For #SelfHosted #blogging, is #ghostblog really all that better than #WordPress? I'm thinking in #freemium terms.

The one thing that particularly bothered me about WordPress was how anything truly useful, outside of taxonomy, was the fact that it ties a lot of value to monthly subscription fees.

I even see the #ActivityPub implementation is single user only. I'm wondering if self hosted means you don't get multi user - or multi author support.

    It's been it and #WriteFreely.

  27. I wrote a little tool to automate monthly potluck reminders with Ghost.

I start with a CSV with the potluck dates, path to a featured photo for that month and YouTube URL to feature in the message.

The tool schedules monthly posts 2 weeks that also go out via email, and an reminder 2 days before. The messages also mention the upcoming meetings.

  29. Happy new year! Anyone running a #GhostBlog (version 6) #selfhosted with #ActivityPub enabled? That was my latest #weekendproject. Unfortunately, the ActivityPub part is giving me quite a bit of trouble right now. It sort of works, but it’s pretty rough and/or #buggy. For example, I can’t delete messages/posts that I postet to the Fediverse. Has anyone gathered some #experience with this?

  31. @ehmatthes I tried to contribute a patch to Ghost to prevent this from happening to more folks, but the project currently has low bandwidth for community contributions, so there's a demoralizing cycle of waiting months for feedback, by which point the work conflicts with current changes and you are asked to resolved those, only to wonder if the cycle of conflict-resolution and waiting will repeat itself.

    github.com/TryGhost/Ghost/pull

I hope #GhostBlog will be able to improve here in the future.

Perhaps in exchange, you could take a look at this bug fix for the API I submitted 5 months ago that's waiting for a peer review?
