Tim Forsythe released a significant update to his free #Windows #genealogy program Gigatrees, that allows you to generate an online site from your genealogy program's GEDCOM file. A lot of new features - 11 new features.

#webtrees an online #genealogy #PHP application was updated to webtrees 2.2.1 just over a week ago, addressing issues for the recently released webtrees 2.2.0. webtrees users who are running PHP 8.3 or newer can upgrade to it.

#rootsmagic 10 users - temporarily hold off on creating Relationship Charts - there is an issue with limited data loss when doing so (namely data entered after you create a Relationship Chart). A fix is coming next Monday (Dec 9).

If you use #webtrees the open-source PHP/MySQL-based online #GenealogySoftware a major update was released two days ago - both the main branch (webtrees 2.2.0) and the older #PHP 7.x branch, mainly fixes, but also upping supported PHP 8.x levels.

The webtrees 2.1.21 received a lot of fixes, and still runs on PHP 7.4 and up (possibly to 8.4), while the main branch webtrees 2.2.0 runs on PHP 8.3 minimum (and has newer libraries)

Over the weekend, Progeny’s Charting Companion version 9 – may have been released, at least for macOS. It’s been 3 1/2 years since Charting Companion 8 came out. v9 supports Family Tree Maker 2024.

#throwbackthursday - 23 1/2 years ago, on April 21, 2001, Don Allingham publicly released #Gramps 0.1.1 for Linux - it is now a much-loved open-source and cross-platform #genealogy program, but it started as an experiment to create a simple #Python program to spot errors in #GEDCOM files and then became "Relativity", a genealogy program for his dad, before becoming Gramps.

#FamilySearch is looking at allowing for user-owned family trees, separate from the main FamilySearch Family Tree and the "Genealogies". Others could see it, but you (and people you designate) control the editing.
