#gramps — Public Fediverse posts

I discovered GRAMPS as a Flatpak application a few weeks ago. I exported my family tree from Ancestry.com, and imported it successfully into GRAMPS. So far things are going pretty well.

If you're into genealogy, it may be an interesting open source project to try out. Their wiki site is really informative and helpful.

Ich pflege seit einigen Jahren unseren Familienstammbaum (ca. 700 Personen) mit Gramps.

Für Feiern oder Treffen exportiere ich die Daten in das Android Programm FamilyGem auf einem Tablet.

Damit kann jeder Laie super im Stammbaum stöbern.

Wer will, kann auch in FamilyGem die Daten erfassen (und auch wieder in Gramps übertragen).

@oliver webtree kenn ich nicht. Ich komme von #gramps - finde #grampsweb entspannter (web statt app). Habe etwa 400 Personen im Datenbestand (Stammbaum + Recherche). Mag's.

#Gramps é unha aplicación gratuita de software libre para PC. É a que eu uso, e logo exporto os datos ás anteriores. Complexa e indicada para unha investigación sería.

#GrampsWeb e un derivado do anterior como servizo web.

My genealogy goal this year is to work through all my documents that I have found and downloaded and link them and organize them in Gramps. I’ve decided on a naming structure which includes the ID and name. I haven’t fully decided how deep of a hierarchy to use for the tree structure as I have a couple of thousand people in my database going back to the 1500s and 1600s for many. I am going to work on fleshing out all the supporting details and filling out family info to the best of my ability. #genealogy #Gramps

Na twee jaar stilstand mijn genealogie project weer afgestoft. Bestanden van oude harde schijf overgezet op huidige laptop.
Ik was alleen vergeten hoe moeilijk het kan zijn om te stoppen als je eenmaal in een spoor verdiept bent. Dus ik zal een timer moeten zetten als ik op tijd in bed wil liggen, gister is dat in ieder geval niet gelukt :p

Je m'attaque à la restructuration de ma base de lieux (près de 1400 lieux, sans compter un millier de subdivision, rues ou lieux-dits). Question : y a t-il moyen d'importer un référentiel géographique (genre : les communes françaises) ou d'exporter des lieux puis réimport avec les coordonnées géographiques ?

bon, le seul truc qui me freine pour une migration vers #Linux, c'est mon logiciel de #généalogie (utilisé au moins depuis 2012... plus maintenu depuis la mort de son développeur, mais toujours vaillant, quoi qu'avec un fichier de près de 20 000 individus ça rame par moment)... allez je prends mon courage à 2 mains pour tout basculer sur #Gramps, corriger tout ce qui passe pas (arg, les lieux..) puis zou, migration #Linux

I've been using Gramps genealogy software on and off for a year and only just realized you can create custom event types just by typing a new name. @vsa Pro Windows toho bude hodně... Jelikož já jedu na Linuxu tak jsem chvíli používal multiplatformní #Gramps, ale je to poměrně komplexní nástroj. Nyní používám #WebTrees, který provozuji na svém webovém hostingu. Rodokmen tak můžu rozšiřovat, kdekoliv v dosahu internetu a data jsou pod mojí kontrolu. https://rodokmen.jakubcabal.cz

#throwbackthursday - 23 1/2 years ago, on April 21, 2001, Don Allingham publicly released #Gramps 0.1.1 for Linux - it is now a much-loved open-source and cross-platform #genealogy program, but it started as an experiment to create a simple #Python program to spot errors in #GEDCOM files and then became "Relativity", a genealogy program for his dad, before becoming Gramps.

Opened my weird database in #Gramps of old NY #klezmer people when someone emailed me for info about a few figures. It time stamps when you last opened it and it was March 29th so I guess I've neglected it for a little while!

In a way, families of musicians work well to be documented using #genealogy methods. Old documents can reveal professional relationships, living arrangements and apparent friendships that no one today remembers.

I've dabbled with #Geneaology many times over the years, first by helping my mother in various ways, and then trying to get serious about it myself after inheriting her research, as well as doing as a small amount myself for my boss. Never really got into it, though the interest was there
Tomorrow will be my next attempt as I plan to sit down and just start learning to use #Gramps properly.
