Day 16 #ArtAdventCalendar: my hand-carved lino block reduction print of a clump of poisonous, Eastern jack-o-lantern mushrooms (Omphalotus illudens) on a decaying hardwood tree stump. The gills of these North American mushrooms are bioluminescent and glow green. My print has a layer of glow-in-the-dark ink so it too glows! The glow is believed to attract nocturnal insects which can then spread spores. 🧵

Atlas Obscura has published the article on Orfelia fultoni, aka "Foxfire Fly" aka "Glowworm" aka "Dismalites". Great read about an interview with Dr. Lynn Faust about them, who encouraged them to contact me about the work I'm doing studying their use of caves. Apparently my cave-use aspects did not get mentioned but that's alright; they did legitimately support my work using two of my photos, including the primary photo for the article shown in the preview below. It was nice working with them and it's an article well worth the five minute read!
