  1. I'm really glad Orfelia fultoni are getting more popular in the caving community because they are neat critters and I can always use more study sites. But I really wish people would not spread false info. So. Here are fun facts:
    1) They are not worms, they are a larval form of a fungus gnat.
    2) Their webs are not really 'sticky', prey have been observed moving across just fine, however there *is* oxalic acid in play.
    3) While you may think of the famous caves in New Zealand, these are in the US southeast region and even have a distinct chemistry to the bioluminescence.
    4) They are super cool. And despite every news story saying they're impossible to photograph, or reporting even NatGeo couldn't video them.... I can. I even have a lovely hi res video of a prey capture. But...I'm a queer fem so what do I know.

Boost so maybe they see that someone can do this?

    aka “Glowworm”
It is not actually a worm, but a fly larvae! I have an ongoing research project studying their use of caves.

It's open access, so don't worry about not being able to open it :)

(the banner is from diversity, I added some of my photos in the system for interest)
