  1. Mozilla doing everything except making their browser better. Hey can you **focus** on Firefox?

Mozilla introduces cq, describing it as 'Stack Overflow for agents'

  2. I'm pretty sure @firefoxnightly is deleting files I download despite me not using private tabs. Been running some tests and force quitting the app prevents files from disappearing from my Downloads folder. It's such a bother to file a bug report since I haven't ruled out #FirefoxFocus interfering somehow, so I'll just leave this note here.

  3. Salut ici !

  10. @TimWardCam @newsfeed einstellungen > alles erlauben I think

Basically the smallest fine print :+. You may also use #firefoxfocus , it auto-deletes history and cookies

  11. @randderuiter I tried this with #Firefox Focus, #Quant and #DuckDuckGo

Quant browser was the worst, it offered no protection at all. DuckDuckGo had strong protection against #tracking, but it had a unique fingerprint. Both are Chrome based, so this isn't really surprising

#FirefoxFocus was like DuckDuckGo, strong protection against tracking, but none against fingerprints. In other words, #fingerprinting isn't limited to the Chrome world, Firefox has no safeguards against it either

Sono curioso, quali browser per desktop e mobile con impostazioni di privacy elevate di default state usando di più?

  13. It goes without saying that people are idiots and that we're our own worst enemy and I have the perfect example of that.

This morning I phoned my uncle, because I sent him a YouTube video and wanted him to watch the supreme upper body strength of the Olympians. Needless to say when I broached the subject of me doing similar… he hated!

But the conversation eventually moved on to his #YouTube woes. For the past week or so, YouTube has been relentless in showing him #adverts.

So I'm asking him questions and eventually ask him if he's updated his #uBlock. He tells me he switched to some new #AdBlock. Don't worry, this isn't a story about someone getting a virus. Turns out he installed the new extension and it worked for a day and doesn't any more. Weird.

So I end up mentioning #ManifestV3 and then it dawned on me. So I ask him, if these problems are in #Firefox? He tells me no, they're in #Opera. Huh?!? So I confirm and ask him if everything works okay in Firefox and he says, no #ads in Firefox, only Opera.

Erm, what in the #BabyReindeer? So I explain that Web Manifest Version Three is designed to hinder #AdBlockers and that he should just switch to Firefox. He says he can't because he shared the computer with his missus and she's using Firefox. I tell him he can just set up a container for his YouTube usage and problem settled. He doesn't like the idea of splitting his web activity between two browsers and besides, he likes to send tabs to his #OperaGX.

So I decide to break it down and tackle it one by one. Starting with the easiest. I explain you can send tabs from Firefox to Firefox. He says it's easier in Opera. I tell him it's pretty easy in Firefox and he asks how. I tell him he needs to log in. He says he is and the option isn't there. I told him to log in on both. He says that in Opera, the option is there in the main UI. I tell him it's an extra click, hardly gonna kill him.

He then says that he doesn't like the new tab UI. Brother, install a frigging extension or just change the options. He likes the big logos in Opera.

He says Firefox boots slower than Opera. I can't dispute that, I don't have his set-up in front of me. But for me, it loads quickly.

So now we're back to splitting activity. I don't have a solution for that. I want to mention that #Mozilla are working on #ProfileManagement for Firefox, but there's no point mentioning things that aren't ready.

So let me just throw shade at Mozilla for a second. As someone that has been an advocate for Firefox because I have felt our goals aligned. I'm deeply saddened by the fact so much of what you're doing is behind logins these days. I'm also saddened that community isn't a consideration when you're hiring. By that I mean, you're hiring a bunch of people that don't feel the need to bother with the community and think it's below them and that's sad. I say this because the community has been clamouring for better profile management for aeons and you're only getting around to it now.

Anyway, he eventually says he prefers the Opera UI because it feels more modern. He says that even the Mozilla website looks dated to him and then says that he would consider Firefox if there was #FirefoxFocus for desktop and at this point I feel like he's just making excuses. I tell him that ultimately, Firefox solves his problem right now because of #MV3 and that even the #uBlockOrigin developer recommends Firefox. He says he'll keep trying to make Opera work? What?!?

At that point, my motion sensor at the top of the stairs was going nuts via #HomeAssistant as my cats were pacing while waiting for their breakfast, so I told him I'd call him back.

I called him back and skeptically recommended #Brave, but he says he got Opera working by disabling a bunch of stuff and relying on the dodgy AdBlock extension he found. WTF? So I said okay and went to make my breakfast.

  14. I used to have #FirefoxFocus set as my ad blocker on #iOS but it’s not been as effective as I’d want it to be. Time to switch to a different and probably less private app 🥲

  15. so i was recently informed that #FirefoxFocus for iOS exists. downloaded it and have been trying it out… it seems very uh, simplistic, which is probably the point. emphasis on #privacy, auto-clears browsing history, etc., which is all great, but doesn’t seem to allow for multiple tabs being open at the same time. also no access to my FF bookmarks, passwords, etc.

is there a way to use the “regular” iOS #firefox browser in a way that includes the additional privacy that comes with firefox focus?

  16. I really wish there was a way for #PWA to open links in the default browser instead of the browser I used to install them with…

#FirefoxFocus doesn't have PWA support (understandably), but one feature I love about native #Mastodon clients is that all the random links I click on *get opened in a privacy respecting browser*.

    I still haven't found a native #iOS app that's as good as #Megalodon, so I'm sticking to #Elk and #Phanpy there and yeah… 😅

  17. Firefox Focus is quickly becoming my favorite mobile browser. Previously when looking something up, I would launch (regular) Firefox, open a new tab, get whatever info I needed, and switch back to whatever I was doing, leaving a trail of stale tabs in my wake.

With Firefox Focus I can quickly (and privately!) perform my query and exit without the guilt of leaving lonely, orphaned tabs behind.

To paraphrase Chris Messina: "Dixie Cup browsing."

#TIL that #Qualtrics "are you human" question doesn't work in #FirefoxFocus, a privacy centric mobile browser that functions kind of like a private browsing session

  20. @openculture @glynmoody This website blocks me from seeing their own content because it claims I have an ad blocker while I don't have an ad blocker. I'm just using the #Firefox #FirefoxFocus browser..

  21. @schoentoon
I agree. #FirefoxFocus might actually be the one who handles it the best (though I would like to see more details and an option to exempt the page (temporarily)), as #FirefoxNightly and #FirefoxPreview just showing a broken padlock when I explicitly try to visit an httpS page, without any clear popup notification, or details why it is insecure, is just as bad imho as #GoogleChrome showing a green padlock...

  22. okay, that's weird...
Using #GoogleChrome on #Android the #tcrf site loads without issues, and shows there's an #SSLCertificate present, issued by #LetsEncrypt:
    mastodon.social/media/ZP6e6gYl

However, it completely refuses to load via @mozilla #FirefoxFocus:
    mastodon.social/media/NhIGy4-j

And #FirefoxNightly loads the page, but says it's 'insecure' and doesn't seem to present an #SSL cert at all? Or at least 'Certainly Something' doesn't seem to detect it:
