Check the essential Mozambique eVisa/eTA requirements before you apply and enjoy a smooth travel experience. -
Should you be forced to use the UK’s #eVisa website, my sympathies. I’m a bit of computer geek and helping spouse update their (non-UK) passport was bloody confusing. We sorted it but at one point they could no longer log in with old passport (understandable), but couldn’t see their status when logged in with the new passport! 😱
New passport apparently meant a new account, and you have to jump through hoops and dig out ancient reference numbers to link this new account to the visa status. Why?!

Last week we sent a letter signed by 20 organisations calling for an investigation into the UK data regulator for failings over the eVisa scheme.
Despite issues with the scheme being raised from the start, the ICO hasn't taken action against the UK Home Office to protect migrants' data rights.
We need answers.

The Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee must ensure data protection is taken seriously by the UK Home Office and upheld by the ICO.
With the position of Information Commissioner now vacant, MPs must push government to deliver a regulator with teeth.

These failings are not just in relation to the UK eVisa scheme, but a wider issue with the ICO’s poor track record on enforcement.
The letter calls on the Committee to investigate what institutional changes are needed to strengthen the ICO's ability to oversee the government and other public bodies.

This comes after John Edwards’ resignation as Information Commissioner last week.
ORG calls on the UK government to appoint a regulator with teeth.
We must reset the regulators’ approach of providing data protection in name only and have them actually enforce our data rights.

Last year, ORG and 18 other civil society organisations called on the ICO to investigate breaches resulting from the UK eVisa scheme.
Seven months later, the ICO hasn't taken any action to address these infringements of data protection law.
Meanwhile, migrants continue to have their lives affected.

The UK Home Office has known about problems with the eVisa scheme from the start.
Its poor design and lack of Data Protection Impact Assessment has resulted in breaches.
But the Home Office is still failing to be transparent about the volume of complaints and how and when they will deal with them.

NEW: 20 civil society organisations have called for an investigation into the UK Information Commissioner's Office for failing to uphold data protection law in relation to eVisas.
This scheme has been plagued with breaches and accessibility issues.
And the ICO has done nothing to hold the UK Home Office to account.

In an FOI response, the ICO did reveal that they'd received 851 complaints about the UK Home Office as a whole between 2023 and 2025.
The volume of complaints was so significant, the ICO was unable to identify how many were about the eVisa scheme specifically.
The Select Committee must investigate.

5️⃣ Roll back the digital hostile environment.
The UK Home Office is deploying flawed and biased tech with little transparency for migrants and refugees.
ORG has called for a ban on the use of AI in asylum decisions, plus facial age estimation tech and the roll-out of the error-prone eVisa scheme.

Calls for the ICO to investigate the eVisa scheme have gone unheard.
ORG flagged that the Home Office failed to assess the risks of a digital-only scheme, exposing migrants to data errors and technical failures that impact their immigration status.
Rights fall apart without an effective regulator.

ORG calls on the UK Information Commissioner's Office "to begin a formal investigation into data protection breaches and accessibility issues with the [eVisa] scheme."
“Migrants are being failed by the Home Office, which didn’t properly assess the risks of a digital-only roll-out."

As an I T professional with fifty years experience, I came here to say exactly that. It’s bizarre that faced with concrete evidence that the system has exactly “lost, stolen or tampered with” this woman’s digital status, they still say “there are no wider issues around the system”.
I fear we are at the beginning or another Post Office Horizon scandal.

The eVisa judicial review will hear that the digital and online-only scheme is unlawful.
Without a physical copy of their immigration status, migrants are at risk of losing access to housing, services and work.
Despite being warned since before implementation, the UK Home Office has done nothing.

Plowing ahead with a system riddled with technical and data errors risks creating another Windrush scandal.
Rather than being dragged to court, the UK government could've allowed physical documents as well as digital proof of the right to be in the UK.

The UK government has blamed legacy IT systems for data breaches.
They've admitted there were 48 legacy systems that formed the basis for the eVisa scheme.
Despite warnings, the Home Office has refused to slow down, stop and revise this system. This can't go on.

The failings of the UK Home Office to manage the eVisa system have caused real world damage to people's lives.
This requires the Information Commissioner’s Office to uphold data protection – which, as yet, they haven't done.
