Nelly Quinlan Donnnelly was the daughter of Irish emigrant parents, her father a railroad worker. As a young married woman she made herself pretty dustcoats so she'd look and feel good. Her neighbours loved them, so she made more, started selling them and ended up with the huge Nelly Don company.
