I am so over the #ENnies (and awards competitions in general). I've seen people begging for votes; I've known people who rushed out products just "to have something to get into the ENnies". It's not about the worth of the candidates. It's a popularity contest. The whole concept is dated and ridiculous. Acknowledge superior products, sure; don't pit them against each other in a ludicrous contest.

I am so over the #ENnies (and awards competitions in general). I've seen people begging for votes; I've known people who rushed out products just "to have something to get into the ENnies". I will not be taking part in the #Ennies this year. The products up for election confirm the impression that I'm increasingly moving away from the #TTRPG scene. I don't give a shit about #DnD / #OSR stuff like #MörkBorg #OSE or #5e. Apart from a few exceptions, I can't do much with the selection.

Originally the Ennies only wanted to have AI stuff barred from certain categories, but now:

"Beginning with the 2025-2026 submission cycle, the ENNIE Awards will no longer accept any products containing generative AI or created with the assistance of Large Language Models or similar technologies for visual, written, or edited content."

I'm not going to re-litigate the whole Jaquaysing/Xandering thing but I think that the #ttrpg scene has a problem with cultural memory and a real problem with visibility for creators who aren't rapidly-aging beardy white men.

You don't solve either of those problems by handing awards to people who have actively tried to make those problems worse. #ennies

Have been working my way through the #ttrpg #Ennies short adventure nominees and Swords of the Serpentine is quite a weird game: Trad set-up for a game that is all about intense modifier wrangling and dice-pool marshaling combined with structureless 'okay... now you guys narrate stuff'

I am curious: How do people feel about the Ennies?

My sense is that while winning an Ennie is obviously an achievement, I'm not sure that I personally trust them enough to make purchasing decisions off the back of them.

I ask as I was considering reviewing the adventure shortlist.

I also think they're an interesting thing to have as the RPG scene has very deep silos but the Ennies do try to unify.
