I am the resident education economist at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä. My research is about weird things like why Finnish institutes of higher education reject many of their top applicants, and whether Finnish academics all come from the same few families. I also hang around at the local econ department, and teach microeconomics courses there.

There are many other episodes covering the important social challenges of our time, including gender, inequality and health service provision.

The benefits of switching electricity supplier became more salient in Ireland over the last year. Pre-energy crisis, a lack of switching was a likely driver of poor competition in the retail electricity market, which can put upward pressure on prices. For those students who do not immediately see a 3D landscape in front of them when confronted with a couple of indifference curves, why not introduce them to indifference curves as Venn diagrams instead? Venn diagrams are also a familiar graph type to the student, and have worked well for me to break the students' associations with time series graphs.
