Sorting out stuff for the new album I just realised I can use #DistroKid to protect my work on social media using the "ContentID" option, select "Discovery Pack" so song recognition apps like Shazam etc can identify my songs, but I can untick ALL the platforms at the top, so I don't actually distribute it to any streaming platforms.
This means it will be exclusively only available on #Bandcamp and #Mirlo but my #YouTube videos will be protected 👍

Finally used my VPN to connect to USA for the first time as #DistroKid emailed me to tell me my music was live on iHeartRadio which isn't available in the UK for some reason.

For my latest release entitled 'a Moment of Solitude', I decided to build down towards a state of calm. Starting out with up-beat grooves and rhythmic elements, by the last few tracks it's relaxed, drum-free and hopefully puts you in a place of contemplation and thoughtfulness.

Are there any good primers for independent musicians to distribute music? I've heard of Bandcamp, TuneCore, and DistroKid, but there are probably more and I'm not sure what the pitfalls of each are. Thanks!

The short answer is: apparently forever. Quick stats, 124 separate messages over the span of 10 months. My music will be deleted! Update my credit card or DOOM... or whatever. On to eternity.

Anyway. Done for realz. I feel a little bit of dumb shame that I thought this was valuable when I started.
Full disclosure: I made $1.47 after 4 years of streaming, with a total of 127k impressions. That is ONE dollar and 47 cents.
Yeah, I'm not breaking through any major walls here, but 127k feels not insignificant, until you try and define what an "impression" is. Meaningless.
This is paying people to chase dumb.
Significantly more listeners (and friends made) with #bonkwave and mastodon chats. The internet as maybe imagined, real.
