Today's India vs Australia t20i match is how the world cup should have been

@TheVoidTLMB @mtearle At first I was like what's all this Rahulla Bulla about and then it Rohit me Bumrah that we're in Kuldeep trouble.
Did I do that right? 🧐

Was it just me, or did the faces of the presentation party at the #CWC2023 not bother to hide their disappointment at India not winning? Poor show, I thought and I’m absolutely here for it. I also loved that the drone light display afterwards had a map of India and the Indian flag, but apparently not the Australian equivalent. Delightful.

Jonathan Agnew is so into sensationalizing every ball that he is a perfect fit for any cricket involving cheering squads. 😉

#cwc23 is the first time since 2007 that a host country has not won the #cricket world cup, reverting to an earlier trend bucked only in 1996 by Sri Lanka (technically).
well done #australia, well deserved.
now, when’s the next test match that isn’t tainted by #bazball?

Luckily for Australia, they decided to stop being England and calmed down and are now two shots from winning the World Cup.
Travis Head has done a magnificent job here. Labuschagne has done a good job backing him up. Both just blocking and taking the occasional single now, grinding the score finely down.
(I think with 10 needed from 48 balls with 7 wickets in hand, we can probably say Australia will win.)
-
@neonbubble nothing short of 3 wickets before Over 35 helps India at this stage. That seems unlikely because the bowling, fielding, and field placement are are not as good as they need to be to defend the low score.

The arrogance of Australian athletes and commentators on full display:
When Marsh is out to a wide-ish ball, it's "lucky wicket" and the batter winks at the bowler as if to say "you didn't earn that wicket, I gifted it to you."
When Kohli plays on a short ball, it's "brilliant bowling" and Cummins gives Kohli the "see what I can do" look.
Not to mention the ink press spends on pitch, crowd, umps any time Australia loses away.
And they wonder why no one likes them. 🙄

Baffling why Smith didn’t review that non-LBW and stay in. Why would you walk off in a world cup final without even checking such a wide ball? Utter idiocy. Australia are losing themselves this match through brain worms.

Not really been following it, but pleasantly surprised that the Cricket World Cup final is free to view in the UK on Channel5. Quite an atmosphere! #cricket #cwc23 #cwc2023 #IndiavsAustralia

Having got themselves a nice easy(ish) target to aim at, Australia have gone full England and given up a cheap wicket with aimless wafting. Just slow down! Build a total in the power play! You don’t need to try and win it in 20 overs! Have some common sense!
-
@GlenDownton Power Play 1, fielding, and dew.
If those go well for Australia, they'll likely win by 6-7 wickets.
OTOH it could be Siraj's day in PP1, and Jaddu's in overs 20-35. 🤞

I stand corrected. Australia leaked 80 runs in the first 10 overs but then only 72 runs in the next 20 overs. They may even keep India down to 250 or thereabouts and that should be an achievable target for the Australians. If they can get Rahul in the next couple, I'd reckon they'd be odds-on for the win. If he gets another 10-15 overs of batting, they might have a problem.

For those in the UK, a reminder that Channel 5 is showing the World Cup final between India and Australia. India were put in and are currently 162-4 from 32 overs. #CWC2023

Australia, like New Zealand, seem to have no idea what to do with India’s opening batsmen. If they don’t figure it out quickly, they’re going to be left having to chase a big total and then it becomes a lot more tricky to win.

Alright! We are all set for the #CWC2023 #Finals - #Australia vs #India.

Just a friendly note to follow/mute #cwc23 #cwc2023 if you wish to read/avoid posts on the ongoing ODI Cricket World Cup.
Here's a taste of what the atmosphere is likely to look during tomorrow's finals between India and Australia. Trust me it will be even louder (and border jingoistic) if India is doing well.
*132,000* fans expected in attendance. No, not a typo.

@autisticphotographer Nice.
I pick Markram over Omarzai for experience, and Santner over Zampa because Santner can really bat and can handle adversity better.
I would pick Rashid Khan over Santner if Khan was available.

Ricky Ponting has the all-time record for the most amount of catches as a fielder in Cricket World Cup history. He had 28 catches over 46 matches from 1996-2011, with 3 as his maximum innings catches. #FactsMatter #CWC2023

The stage is all set for #Sunday's #CWC2023 #Finals - #Australia vs #India.
It has been a great campaign for the #Indians so far, but #Aussies have shown the typical #grit they bring out during an #ICC tournament. It will be a fun game.

Cricket fans fully expect South Africa to choke in crucial matches but fans of India would have preferred South Africa win today and choke in the finals. 😉
Anyway, come Sunday, India will be tested for the first time in this tournament. I hope they win, but history is on Australia's side. 🤞

Though Virat Kohli's 50th ODI hundred today took him past Tendulkar's record of 49, the Little Master is still well ahead on international centuries across all three formats, thanks to his record of 51 hundreds in Tests (Kohli has 29 so far):
100 SR Tendulkar
80 V Kohli
71 RT Ponting
63 KC Sangakkara
62 JH Kallis
55 HM Amla
54 DPMD Jayawardene
53 BC Lara -
Show me a person who at innings break thought someone other than Kohli would be today's Player of the Match if India won, and I'll show you a liar.

Trivia: 7 of the 10 countries in the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup are in the northern hemisphere. But 3 of the 4 countries in the semifinals are in the southern hemisphere.
That is, all southern-hemisphere countries in the tournament made it to the semifinals.
Perhaps countries aspiring to do better next time should just move? 🤔

Weird watching David Beckham at the #Cricket with a fawning interviewer heralding him as a “legendary” footballer. I mean, was he though? With the greatest of respect, I don’t think he’d even put himself into that category. He was decent and made the absolute most of what he had, but….. Also, to suggest his very presence inspired Kohli to his record-breaking 50th 100 seems a bit of a stretch, to say the least.
Speaking of stretches…. what on earth has happened to DB’s face?

New Zealand are going to have to go full Glenn Maxwell to get anywhere near this total. They just haven't had any answer to India's batting.

Don't mind me. I'm just sitting here, tears rolling down, appreciating and admiring Virat Kohli getting his 50th ODI 100. I was deeply touched when Kohli's first gesture after was to bow to Sachin Tendulkar in the stand.
What an accomplishment, so much humility and presence of mind, and such high quality batting. Respect. 🙇♂️
