Sir Alastair Cook expresses interest in joining England men`s coaching staff. Michael Atherton proposes a disciplined voice to restore performance standards. https://english.mathrubhumi.com/sports/cricket/alastair-cook-england-coaching-role-atherton-proposal-ihi01w4e?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon #AlaisterCook #englandcricket #Ashes #BrendonMcCullum #bazball

For all the hot takes about how #BazBall ruined the #BoxingDayTest, it was hardly the reason that Australia lost 20 wickets in 8 hours of play.
Wherever the blame should fall, a big chunk is on our shoulders too.

England has struggled to maintain momentum, failing to win any five-match series against Australia or India, with 16 defeats in 33 matches. https://english.mathrubhumi.com/sports/cricket/end-of-bazball-era-farewell-to-brendon-as-shastri-set-to-take-over-as-england-coach-efh2whxk?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon #BrendonMcCullum #RaviShastri #Bazball #Ashes #England

I don't feel Brendon McCullum should get the axe for this #Ashes debacle. I think the ECB should wait and see. Maybe after 3-4 more Ashes debacles they can make a decision. Ten debacles tops.

"With this sort of batting and bowling, they couldn't win an egg cup, let alone the Ashes urn," stated Geoffrey Boycott. https://english.mathrubhumi.com/sports/cricket/bazball-in-ashes-stokes-says-the-dressing-room-he-captains-is-not-a-place-for-weak-men-kqckmp0b?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon #BenStokes #Bazball #BrendonMcCullum #AustraliavsEngland #Ashes

Cricket commentators asking if this is the evolution of Bazball.
Waiting to pick the right ball to hit to the boundary. It’s called Test Cricket, been doing it for 150 odd years.

We have rewatched the Head innings in the 1st test at Perth. It was probably one of the most incredible, idiosyncratic centuries in living Ashes history, but was it the best? No. The bowling was awful and Head got away with shots that other bowling sides would not have allowed.
But Head's innings should have its spot in Ashes history for the audacity and the context in which he batted - no batsman had got over 50 in the game before him and certainly had not batted for anywhere near as long. His audacious stroke play definitely threw the bowlers off their plans and discipline.
He was seeing that ball like a football. He transgressed all the rules of good batting technique by doing things like pulling balls that were pitching on the offside and cutting balls pitching on the leg. He used his thighs instead of his feet at times to rock into the right position to hit the ball. He middled the ball and timed it superbly. His technique is unique and probably impossible to imitate.
Head deserves credit for volunteering himself to open the innings to replace Khwarja, the regular opener. Batting as an opener facing a brand new ball and responsibility to set the team up well, is very different to batting a wearing ball in the middle of the order.
Travball is Bazball with brains. The English are late to that style of play. The Australians (eg. Gilchrist) and before them the West Indians, (Viv Richards et al.) started playing that way years ago. The English have got a lot to learn about this style of play. You still have to play to the conditions and adjust the way you play according to the ground you are playing in.

I see that Jacob Bethell is set to make his test debut batting at number three in the order, a position he has never previously occupied in professional cricket. England determined to learn nothing from either their own experience with Daniel Lawrence opening for the first time at test level or the recent brief and brutal test debut experience of Nathan McSweeney (Australia), opening for the first time in his professional career.

67-1 at close for England. I might set an alarm to wake up early for the 4th. #BAZBALL
