Three months later, the 25 December 2023 Gold Coast storm damage still has not been fixed at the Coomera train station. This does not bode well for our ability to deal with more serious events in the future.

The state of active transport in #GoldCoast as seen at the #Coomera train station:
1. A$17m spent mostly on adding 500+ free car spaces ($34k per car) for a total of 1000+ just on state gov land.
2. The not functioning secure bike storage: 36 spaces for bikes, but 0 available, 13 people on a waiting list, and the shed is actually empty. Instead of a 3 month fob rental, the shed should open with an ID, credit card or phone?

Public and active transport in #GoldCoast continues to be affected by the 2023 Christmas Day storm (driving is fine). My footpath is still blocked, and I have to walk on the road for a bit. The glass wall from a bus shelter is still on the ground, the #Coomera train station stairs still get blocked off when it rains. My train is 15 minutes later than usual till Thursday (may not be storm related), making the change from bus ~25 minutes. Even the ticket machine is failing today.

The Christmas Day 2023 storm affected also the public transport in Gold Coast. The Coomera train station roof is still leaking, two weeks after the event, making both staircases slippery. They are blocked off with tape and security guards. Passengers are told to use the lift.

It's been raining on and off most of the day today. My rooftop solar produced only 0.9 kWh - the lowest ever. The day earlier it was 37.4 kWh. My local public park has some paths flooded.

Someone requested and someone permitted putting a misleading sign on Foxwell Rd near the train station. If you want to walk to the train station or Westfield, the footpath is not obstructed. If you want to walk along Foxwell, there is a little concrete work on the footpath itself, but the grass verge around it is fine, better than at other places on Foxwell Rd that don't have footpaths. Except, there is a guard that will probably tell you to go back.

The signs say "Creating a 28ha natural reserve" and feature a painting of a koala....

The expanded and redesigned car park next to the #Coomera train station shows that the #Queensland #TMR department is moving backwards on active travel infrastructure.
When I see this lamppost placement in what seems to be a minimum width footpath, I wonder, would you place it in a road like that? No? Then why did you put it in the path to be used by pedestrians, bikes, mobility scooters?

The #Costco in #Coomera is exactly the kind of development #GoldCoast city council should have never approved. It is located near the train station in an area that was supposed to be a town centre, with schools, hospitals, parks, etc, but now it is a #planning disaster with widened roads and huge car parks. Trying to leave Coomera by Foxwell Rd yesterday around noon took about 30 minutes instead of 5, because of all the cars coming from Costco/Westfield via Creek Rd.

My bike/train commute from #Coomera to #Helensvale is so quiet in the morning during school holidays. So few #cars. Cities are not loud, cars are...
One more photo from the yesterday's burn. Someone told me that if you are close enough and don't see the fire, just smoke - it's a controlled burn, because firefighters are there, pouring water to keep the #fire small. Still, it is a sight to behold.

@ozbob13 - good interview. In #GoldCoast under 5% of all trips are by #PublicTransport. New developments are copying the worst North American models. See the #Coomera train station for example: a concrete desert of car parks, drive through restaurants, Costco, a miserable place for walking and riding a bike.
