  1. Carney Roasts Trump as Canadians Boycott U.S. and Liberals Win Big

  2. What could your minor act of resistance be today?

Set your default search engine to Ecosia, and divert some advertisement income away from Google, to Europe and plant some trees while you are at it!

It's a Europe based search engine company (I know, they still use American search indices...).

  3. Here's a nice list if you are looking for alternatives for #bigtech products.

It is a project in development, read about the 'why' on:

Switching away from big tech not only makes you more technologically independent from these increasingly unreliable companies, it also breaks their monopolies and with that puts power back in your own hands.

  4. Interesting website giving Fortune 100 companies a grade for how they are treating democratic values. Some surprise entries (for me at least), like Tesla getting a B, and Alphabet (Google) getting an F...

Remember that the dollars they spend on lobbying are the dollars you put in these companies. By informing yourself and being an #activistconsumer you can nudge the world in your direction.

  5. In the Netherlands today has become the national 'transfer day' #overstapdag. In other words: people are taking time today to leave WhatsApp and move towards Signal due to their concerns in relation to #privacy and the ongoing influence that #bigtech is having on #politics in the #usa.

    Will you make the change?

  6. Target web storefront: charges me sales tax on a "Target Plus" (i.e., 3rd-party selling through their platform) grocery order (groceries are tax-free where I live)
Me: Notices and complains via chat immediately after placing order
Target: [After making me wait like a half hour] We can't do anything until the order is invoiced
Me: Complains again via chat after order is delivered
Target: I've forwarded it to our tax team, maybe they'll get back to you eventually 🤷
    Me: 😡

  7. Sometimes I worry that the principled stand I am taking not to patronize a particular business is just hurting me without doing diddly squat to influence the business. Two example, both #Boston area #restaurants...

  8. Ups and downs of patronizing Sullivan Tire in Watertown MA

They do good work, but they often put you through a significant amount of turbulence along the way.

  9. Why is PayPal still so incredibly awful?

Even if you jump through all of PayPal's hoops and give them all the information they ask for when creating an account, they may still decide to arbitrarily lock you out of your account and never restore your access. #PayPal #LiberaPay #Charity #ComputerSecurity #infosec #ConsumerActivism #fraud

  10. The major credit reporting agencies are all still dumpster fires

I tried to dispute incorrect information. The process didn't fully work at any of the agencies. I was eventually able to dispute all of the incorrect information at one, but I was unable to dispute some or all at two others and eventually gave up. The credit reporting agencies are terrible.

  11. Neighborhood CVS reneges on agreement to allow neighbors to park in lot, has them towed
    Chapter 3: The Verdict
Alas, the magistrate ruled in favor of CVS, so I’m out the $150 towing fee, plus the $4.60 for the letter I sent them demanding reimbursement, plus the $40 small claims fee. D’oh.

  12. LastPass still hasn’t learned the first rule of being in a hole
LastPass sent out an email and published a blog posting today to go with the support article they published earlier this week. They keep making things worse.

  13. Newly released details about the recent LastPass security incident are bad
The newly released details about last fall's LastPass breach and their response to it are bad, and LastPass should feel bad, and you should stop using LastPass.

  14. #PSA: Many #LED #lightbulbs don't last their warranty period or the hours they claim to last. When you install one, save the receipt and write on the base with a fine-tip permanent marker: the date you bought it, the number of hours it's rated for, and the warranty length. If it fails prematurely, you can use that info and the receipt to get a free replacement. You'll save some cash, and people doing this incentivizes manufacturers to stop selling crap bulbs. #ConsumerActivism

  15. “SoftHQ” earns a place in my tech recruiter hall of shame
A SoftHQ recruiter called me four times in two days, emailed me twice in two days, all for a job that he should never have been contacting me about. My attempt to complain to SoftHQ failed because the contact email on their web site bounces.

  16. Avoid Advance Auto Parts in Allston, MA
Advance Auto Parts jumps the shark, sells me bulbs that don't work in my car after claiming they will, and won't give me a refund when I try to return them. Corporate claims they're looking into the matter.

  18. How GEICO went from 5/5 to 0/5 over the course of a single claim
    Dear GEICO,

I'm writing to explain how, over the course of your handling of a single claim, you went from being a company I would definitely recommend to others to one which I would under no circumstances recommend. If you actually care about winning and keeping customers, you might want to listen.

  19. @ashleykolodziej Tell me about it! Getting #GlobeDirect to stop is like pulling teeth.
I've never been able to get #Comcast to stop. They've sent me at least 19 mailings so far this year. This is one reason their rates are so high, they waste tons of money on mailings.
