Since we're renaming things I'd just like to re-up this meme from our 2004 presidential election. The United States of Canada has expanded a bit since then in the west (Colorado and Nevada have firmly left Jesusland) but the South and Midwest....sigh #uspol #CanadaPolitics #UnitedStatesOfCanada

Since the "Gulf of America" fiasco, I didn't think I'd hear anything dumber. Now it's renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. Eye roll. Add Greenland, the "Canada as the 51st state" talk, and countless other embarrassments. I never voted for Trump. I hope Middle America comes to their senses, & that the next election brings a better outcome. I am so sorry. 😪

RE: https://techhub.social/@manlycoffee/117151596259729715
A bolder move would have been "you don't want Americans buying from us? Fine, we'll actually go ahead and not sell to you."
Instead, we went with "we don't need your stupid stuff anyways."
-
Canada would be much better off imposing export control, rather than tariffs.
-
Two people got upset at me for the stance that I took.
To make this clear:
- Trump is an idiot
- Two wrongs don't make it right; retaliatory tariffs are wrong -
The anti-American crowd is fairly anti-Canadian.
Canada has a unique Canadian spelling, but people want to throw that out, because that stuff is too American, apparently.

CW: Profanity
When tariffs were announced when Trump took office, Canadians were like "haha, you're going to punish your own American people to fuck with us!"
Then when it was instituted, Canadians were like "you're going to fuck us by fucking yourself? How dare you! We'll fuck Canadians harder to fuck you!"
-
Anti-American-supply-chain beliefs are just luxury beliefs.
-
I'm reading through posts of people demanding labeling laws to curb maple-washing (e.g. levying fines).
Aren't the new tariffs enough?
-
As a patriotic "#ElbowsUp" Canadian, I'd rather provide free word-of-mouth marketing to fellow Canadian businesses than to penalize Canadians for having bought American.
-
As a patriotic "#ElbowsUp" Canadian, I'd rather provide free word-of-mouth marketing to fellow Canadian businesses than to shame Canadians for having bought American.
-
Don't attack Canadians to attack Americans.
But here we are, attacking Canadians to attack Americans.
-
Reminder to all Canadians:
You are not weak for buying the cheapest stuff.
You are not weak if you ever relied on the comparative advantage of buying American (or relying on something that relies on American down the supply chain).
You are not weak for feeling disappointed when all of that gets taken away.
The Carney supporters shunning you and making you feel alone and unable to support yourself are privileged assholes, or either that, or a bunch of people with no self-respect.

CW: discussion of white supremacy in Canada
There was a Winnipeg white supremacist who did not hesitate to say the quiet part out loud about what a good chunk of the Canadian right (and many parts of the world-wide right think in general) thinks in terms of immigration.
I say "was" because I'm not sure if he was arrested for violating Canada's criminal code section 319 "Public Incitement of Hatred."
Max Genest has not only made very racist comments. He also goes around Manitoba taking pictures of immigrant families while calling for them to be mass deported. He is literally breaking the law, with a conviction that could get him a 2 year sentence.
Anyway, trigger warning as he hits all the talking points (they'll all be in caps for context) with the following quote:
"The only way to fight back is to SECURE OUR ETHNOSTATE. This is our BIRTHRIGHT. This is our BLOOD and SOIL and they don't belong here. So they must go back. I don't care how many times you call me a racist. I just care that you GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY. It is time we launch REMIGRATION. It is time we send them all back. It is time we RESTORE OUR NATION. Long live Canada."
If you see or hear violent intent in any of the words that are in all caps, make sure to push the communicator to define in more detail what they're saying. Because most likely, the agenda isn't just racism, it's eugenics and incitement or ethnic cleansing that leads to physical violence. Consider this an education.

All the talk about Mark Carney and the premiers preparing to make concessions to the US, (including lifting the US Booze Ban), looks a lot different today.
I wonder if publicizing the amount of concessions we were willing to offer was done knowing that the US would get greedy and torpedo a good deal with last minute changes.
