  1. I love it when a plan comes together… The @snsf_ch has approved my Scientific Exchanges proposal “Models and Narratives: Computational and Historical Thinking in Dialogue,” so I now look forward to spending 6 months in #Brussels working on the theory and epistemology of #ComputationalHistory with @sdevaleriola and his team.

Three researchers at Herder-Institut Marburg used #TopicModeling to analyse over 7,000 articles in Latvian diaspora newspapers. They uncovered a remarkable archive of how displaced communities maintained identity across decades and continents - and found that topic modeling is a serendipitous technology...

  37. Had an interesting discussion today.

In linguistics, when hiring a postdoc (with some teaching load), you can definitely ask for a trial lesson on, say, the basics of morphology for first-year BA students. If you hold a PhD in linguistics, regardless of your specialty, you should know enough about morphology to do this.

If we wanted to do this in #ComputationalHumanities (or #DigitalHumanities), what might be an equivalent?

    Tricky question, huh?

  38. Next Tuesday (April 15, 2025), I’ll have the pleasure of hosting @chnunn for a talk:
