I am a #queer #civictech #webdev interested in #solarpunk living, a more sustainable web, and improving the world around me!
My work can always be found at https://travissouthard.com/ where I post projects, blog posts, and sometimes #pixelart.
Outside of my work as a developer, I am one of the co-directors at #codeforphilly, our projects are at: https://codeforphilly.org/
In a past life I was a bike mechanic and #biketour leader. Still ride and go #bikepacking when I can.

Last night was my first #codeforphilly hack night as the newer co-Director. Very excited to be working with Andria to keep CfP going strong! And grateful to @katjost for setting us up for success the way she has as the previous co-Director!
Check out https://codeforphilly.org if you’re interested in getting involved with #civictech in #philadelphia! Also we’re looking specifically for events, project success, and communications co-leads to join our leadership team!

Wrote a blog post about solving a #dockercompose error I was running into with #vite and #react not building correctly. Solving it unblocks work on the #codeforphilly project my team will be presenting during #ptw2023

Excited to get into the meat of coding our #codeforphilly #launchpad2023 project over the next few weeks. The team has really developed a cool plan for an app!
I can post it once we’re ready for the #ptw2023 presentations on May 10! And anticipating what the other two Launchpad teams have been working on!

#PhillyTechWeek is coming up soon & I’m looking forward to participating in 3 ways:
1. Speaking about Comcast’s ongoing trial of GitHub’s AI-augmented coding tool, #GitHubCopilot, which I am leading, at a luncheon on May 10th
2. Speaking about the successes & learnings from running the 2023 #CodeForPhilly Launchpad (5-week hackathon) after the luncheon
3. Hosting the Launchpad Showcase at #IndyHall at night on May 10th, where teams will demo their projects after 5 weeks of hard work!

Felt good setting up the boilerplate (or at least beginning of which) for our #codeforphilly #launchpad2023 project!
It's also nice to see the discovery process yield some interesting designs and start thinking about how to implement those! We'll be presenting our demo May 10 at #ptw2023 and I will be happy to share that here when it's ready!

Sometimes you need a reminder to take a five minute break to go appreciate the sunset.
From today’s #CodeForPhilly hack night working through the beginnings of a new project for CfP’s Launchpad event

Had a good weekend of getting some great things done by joining #codeforphilly’s Launchpad kickoff weekend and starting a cool civic project with some excellent volunteers!
Also spent some time gardening and getting some work started on setting up our backyard!

An #introduction: Hi! I’m Travis! I’m a queer #solarpunk #softwareengineer living in #philadelphia.
During the day I work at @azavea developing #geospatial web apps. I also volunteer as a team lead with #CodeForPhilly developing #civictech.
I previously have worked as a bike mechanic, #biketour leader, and video producer. I have been dabbling in #mtb and #pixelart as hobbies, and have 2 cute cats.

My birthday is today! Since it’s always the day before New Year’s Eve, I tend to get very retrospective.
Things I’m proud of this year:
- Buying a house!
- Leading my #codeforphilly team
- Excellent wedding reception!
- Growing in my job, leading on work culture talks/projects
- 2-week #biketour in Ireland!Things I want more of in the new year:
- Bike rides!
- Especially some weekend and longer #bikepacking trips!
- Level up my #geospatial software engineering
- Make more #pixelart -
I love my #community at #CodeforPhilly. We rallied & spent the morning trying to figure out how to let these people know that their ballots were missing dates, etc. & wouldn’t be counted, so that they would hopefully fix the ballot or show up in person to vote: https://vote.phila.gov/news/2022/11/05/ballots-administratively-determined-to-have-no-secrecy-envelope-or-no-signature-no-date-or-a-potentially-incorrect-date-on-return-envelope/
Turns out others were way ahead of us. It was inspiring.
