*watching climate change/ capitalism effects devastate CA* yep, #Louisiana has been saying for idk the last decade i guess in my own memory that we were the forefront of climate change, and the whole nation will be watching us eventually to use our methods of survival to save themselves... I've been really feeling that the last year, that weight, that knowledge sharing, esp as our community/ collective projects are more visibly taking shape and substance...

The rate of global heating caused by humans is at an all-time high

Global heating caused by humans is advancing at 0.26 degrees Celsius (°C) per decade – the highest rate since records began, according to research by over 50 leading international scientists. They find that in 2023, global surface temperatures were 1.43°C above their pre-industrial levels, with human activity accounting for 1.3°C of that figure.

Please be aware about the reality of the salt water wedge coming up the MS River. That is very much the source of the city tap water.

@dromografos "#Louisiana, with about 1% of the nation’s population, already emits more than 4% of the United State’s greenhouse gases because of its heavy industrial base. A Louisiana greenhouse gas inventory shows new announced projects, if built, are projected to increase global warming emissions from 142 million metric tons (MMT) of carbon dioxide or equivalent, to 243 MMT by 2026.

More than half of those new emissions will come from the state’s new liquefied natural gas plants, and a third from new chemical plants. Only some of those projects are planned to have carbon capture, but even if the equipment captures the industry’s promised 95% of carbon emissions, the rest will be released into the atmosphere."

"Max Midstream did not respond to those allegations. Instead, it cited what it characterized as the “quintessential 1-mile test” by Texas’ environmental regulator, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, to claim that the groups and citizens involved had no right to bring forth a challenge because they lived more than 1 mile from the Seahawk Oil Terminal...Indeed, the test is not codified in Texas law or TCEQ rules. Yet it appears consistently in TCEQ opinions going back at least 13 years as a means to restrict public challenges to air pollution permits. It has been cited repeatedly by Gulf industry lawyers and denounced by environmental advocates."
