Inspired by this weather to make some progress on our go-bags, documenting here in case it helps anyone.
I've separated the contents into some plastic freezer bags to help keep fresh & dry in case of a flood/storm.
So far each bag contains:
Food in plastic bag:
nature valley granola bars, mixed x6
fruit in jelly cups x3
flavoured tuna tins x3 (pull tab tops)
Whittaker's peanut/almond slabs x2
cheap metal spoons x2(what food to pack is highly subjective, as long as it keeps well)
Hygene kit in plastic bag:
Colgate travel dental kit (brush, paste, floss, mouth wash)
hand sanitiser
aquatabs (water sterlising tabs)
face masks
set of disposable silverwear
First Aid Kit:
a small pre-made personal first aid kit to which I've added some panadol and savlonStill heaps to add to these, but it's a good start. Next up: water bottles, rain ponchos, flashlights, jumpers, phone chargers, important documents (or copies of)

#DearLazyWeb: As part of #DisasterPreparedness organizing in the past, our group did a table top exercise to identify gaps in our response capabilities. We were fortunate enough to have someone who worked in public health make one and GM it for us.
I found some from FEMA with some quick searching. Assuming a group of 5-10 people organizing for themselves (and maybe folks in their neighborhoods), are there any exercises/table top simulations like these that other folks would recommend?
https://www.fema.gov/emergency-managers/individuals-communities/what-would-you-do-scenarios
I'd be especially interested in anything that considers intentional systemic collapse scenarios, like, "Some jackass shuts down the government and refuses to pay SNAP" and other things like "FEMA doesn't come to help because it's been disbanded by ghouls."

@abbyerhinehart"For all my LA friends, let me share my 10 years of FL hurricane experience with you🧵
1 If you’re leaving LEAVE NOW Sunday or later is too late
2 If you’re not leaving
- Get non-perishable food items, a non-electric cooking device, and a cooler to fill with ice
- Fill your bathtub with water the night before storm arrives and plug it (use to boil for drinking, shower, and flush toilets)

There’s a lot of talk about Seattle’s earthquake risk as Turkey endures disaster. We have a non-zero chance of a major quake in our lifetime in this part of the country. We also have a volunteer network working VERY hard to train people to help each other stay informed and safe when it hits. Meet the Seattle Hub Network: https://crosscut.com/environment/2021/10/disaster-preparedness-takes-center-stage-seattle-volunteer-group

Hello Mastodon, or is it Tootland? I'm so confused...I will just blunder on, confused as usual!
I'm Heidi Stenner, a #hazards geologist and Project Manager with #GeoHazards International (#GHI) a non-profit focused on working with lower-resourced global communities who are at high risk of natural hazards and climate change impacts.
I have been an #earthquake #geologist and #paleoseismologist with USGS. Migrated into #scicomm #disasterprep. I'm most interested in #EQ #landslide #volcano #compound #concurrent #cascading #disasters and how to #mitigate #adapt #plan to reduce their impacts.
