"when experts suggest abandoning New Orleans, we have to ask: Whose city is considered worth saving? What is being framed as inevitability is, in many ways, future-framed environmental racism. But what if we refused that frame?" - Maddison Wells

  29. hello, fedinauts, anyone from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA here? is there a Linux community over there that organizes install parties and such? one of my BFFs is from NOLA (not on the fedi... yet) and he's gonna be forced to buy a new computer, so we were thinking this would be a good opportunity to switch to Linux (I suggested Mint because it has been working really well for all the non-tech people I personally know, including my 61ys old father), but he's not confident he can do it on his own and needs a chaperone. I can/could do it online, but it would be so much better if he could have such support in person, also really cool if he could connect with such a community, if it exists. anyways, if you peeps know something, let me know too!

    boosts appreciated! :boostRequest:

  34. Note that most are individual buildings or groups of sculptures - but unusually, the entire city of New Orleans is now listed.

"Rather than highlighting a single landmark, the nomination frames the city as an irreplaceable living cultural landscape: a place where historic neighborhoods, vernacular architecture, public traditions, water, culture and daily life are inseparable. "
