  2. @btravern @Tim_Eagon Shame you couldn’t squeeze in the classic #CastleFalkenstein, which still sticks with me.

  5. Most #Steampunk #ttrpg settings have the problem that they tend to gloss over the evils of Imperialism and Colonialism. #CastleFalkenstein fares better than most, since it portrays Imperialism as something that ought to be opposed more often than not. It is perhaps unfortunate that the point-of-view protagonist is a white male 20th century American, but it should not be too hard to include other characters.

Still, I don't particularly care for the Castle Falkenstein rules systems, and I'm not sure what I'd use it instead. Yes, there was a #GURPS version published for it (which I recommend as a generic "World Guide" even if you don't use the rules, as well as the supplement Castle Falkenstein - The Ottoman Empire), but they'd need to be updated for 4E...

  7. I spent the afternoon reading French #GraphicNovel Castle in the Stars by Alex Alice.

Part #Miyazaki, part #Space1889, part #CastleFalkenstein, it's a story about a French scientist who, in the 1860s, discovers the existence of aether and builds a balloon/anti-gravity airship for King Ludwig of Bavaria.

It's not just that I love this sub-genre and that I love this premise, but that the artwork is incredibly, seriously, amazingly beautiful.

  9. 🧵 He eventually became interested in #TTRPG, with his first project in the space being a reworking of Traveller, a #ScienceFiction game, to improve the combat system. He went on to design various tabletop RPGs, notably including #CastleFalkenstein, an alternate-reality #steampunk fantasy game, and of course Cyberpunk. Pondsmith has also contributed to some #D&D sourcebooks including Forgotten Realms. [continued]

  11. 8) Favorite RPG for its art: Let me first say that I think art is really important to set the tone for a game. For me good art can elevate a mediocre game to greatness and make a good game average. I loved #Agone in its day, #EclipsePhase is gorgeous, #Nobilis 2nd ed. is a piece of art, #CastleFalkenstein was great, #TheOneRing hit the mark, but it has to be #Symbaroum. I loooove the artwork in this game. There is no contest.
