  1. Many #butterwort species from Mexico have two growth phases. When the weather is dry, they form a tight rosette of succulent leaves. When seasonal moisture arrives, they transition into their carnivorous phase, sporting larger mucilage-covered leaves that catch small insects.

  2. #Pinguicula gigantea catches the few fungus gnats that end up in the grow space, using its large, dewy leaves. From my experience, this species is easy to propagate from leaf pullings. I like giving these away to friends and family.

  3. I decided to try growing a few #Drosera subg. Bryastrum this year, and they really live up to their common name. They are TINY! The biggest one pictured is about 13mm across.

  5. A few different clones of #Pinguicula emarginata. I recommend this species if you want a small indoor butterwort that will keep its carnivorous leaves year-round and flower frequently. Keep the soil damp using the tray method, and give it bright indirect light.

  6. Venus Flytraps’ first tiny leaves!

It’s been a while since I’ve grown flytraps. Any advice for keeping them safe from American Robins? The birds are fond of uprooting my outdoor temperate plants, especially in the fall.
