Many #butterwort species from Mexico have two growth phases. When the weather is dry, they form a tight rosette of succulent leaves. When seasonal moisture arrives, they transition into their carnivorous phase, sporting larger mucilage-covered leaves that catch small insects.

#Pinguicula gigantea catches the few fungus gnats that end up in the grow space, using its large, dewy leaves. From my experience, this species is easy to propagate from leaf pullings. I like giving these away to friends and family.

Venus Flytraps’ first tiny leaves!
It’s been a while since I’ve grown flytraps. Any advice for keeping them safe from American Robins? The birds are fond of uprooting my outdoor temperate plants, especially in the fall.

Happy #WorldCarnivorousPlantDay! Meet the Swollen Bladderwort. She floats on the Okefenokee like a yellow star, but beneath her "snowflake" arms lies a hungry Mother. Her tiny bladders are vacuum traps that snap shut in a blink, sucking life into a watery grave. #WyrdWednesday #Okefenokee #Nature
